Question about Protron PDV-768 Portable DVD Player

Is there an external battery pack that would work with this?

The pdv-768 has no internal battery and I would like to take it on a plane and need an external power source but have yet to find something for this particular model. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I am aware of external battery packs but cannot find any to work with this particular model. I called the company and was told they will not work with this model but I find that very difficult to accept as the description of this player at amazon states there is an optional battery pack. Unfortunately, no other info is available and extensive research has turned up nothing except other frustrated owners.

Hi,

There are on the market external battery packs (rechargeable) specifically designed just for this purpose/DVD. You have of course to specify that voltage and current requirements as well as the type and polarity of the power plug. There are universal models that normally fits most models of DVD, something similar to this.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Appreciate the post back.
If none is available on the market, why not make your own? If you would look over the AC adapter of your Protron PDV-768, pls confirm that the output is 12VDC 1.5Amps. This is enough information to configure the external battery requirement. Additionally, this particular model has an automobile adapter which confirms its 12VDC requirement. As to the type/size of the plug, most electronics store carry generic and some even could be purchased with wires attached/pre-soldered. The polarity is a matter of using a DVM on the original adapter and determine if it is center positive (most likely) and simulate with the purchased plug/wire. The battery could be any external battery pack capable of supplying the 12VDC/1.5A. An ideal candidate would be replacement/generic battery packs for laptops. Recharging the external battery pack is a matter of using the original adapter or purchasing another one specifically to recharge the battery pack. Of course the charger would have to have a complementing/mate jack for the plug with correct polarity.

    Hello Again,

If this comes into problem, You should identify the voltage power required by your player that with use of some twick like voltage regulator which can be made electronically that most of the electronic tech can make this power supply to supply the player from the DVD +inverter(to regulate the supply). However if this hard you to find the maker. you have no option except make your player only at home.

Power supply for the 2nd screen ??

If you are not using the car power adapter that came with your PDV-768 for the 2nd screen, you are likely running into the possibility of "reversed polarity" with the power adapter you are attempting to use. This can & often will cause a problem with your unit.
