I have a Subzero 642 and the vacum compressor light is on. I have vacumed the compresser coils twice and the warning light stays off for 24 hours or so and then comes back on. Any suggestions?

I have same problem - I vac'd again and am leaving the vent cover off to cool it down - turned on and off, turned ice off  and for now message has not come back on and it seems to be cooling down - will see.  How old is your refrig?

How do you take the condensor cover off?

I have the same problem also. I've vac'd and blown w/ compressed air several times. The vacum compressor light stays off now for 3 or 4 days and just when I think I've fixed the problem it comes on again. I hate to think of paying for a service call but I seem to be out of self-help options. Besides this issue the refrigerator seems to be working just fine.

How do I turn off and reset side-by-side Subzero fridge, to vacuum condenser?

Usually vacuum condenser light is on, not because of condenser coils dirty, but low on refrigerant unit, so compressor is running longer then usually. You can shut your subzero off at breaker box, if light will keep coming on in day or two, you will need to call service to replace evaporator. Most likely evaporator in Fresh food section has leak(at list its most common place). Check this video I made, even if Your Sub Zero sideXside it still will look the same about changing evaporator. Hope that was helpful.

Subzero 611 freezer not cooling

Could be but before that check if settings are working. Set the freezer settings to coolest and see if cools. If ok, set to desired temp.

LCD panel and lights not working

On your Sub-Zero 642 Your display will not work unless your refrigerator lights work.
1st. Make sure your light bulbs are good.
2nd. Check your refrigerator door light switch.
3rd. The subzero uses a thermal overload to kill your lights if the door is left open to long.

I have a 690 subzero refrig that runs almost continually and temps jump around from 38-46..any ideas

I had the vacuum condenser message on my sub zero for about five years. I vacuumed it every six months (as per the owners manual) and the message would go out for about a day and then come back. I figured it was just a bad code.

Recently, my frigerator temp went from the normal 38 to 40 deg F to about 53 to 55 deg F. My freezer temperature was normal (0 deg to -2 deg F). My unit is under warranty (parts only) -- Model 560 -- so I called an authorized service company. They found that my evaporator coil was bad and replaced. I had to pay for labor and freon so my bill was about $300.

Since then -- my warning message is gone and my frig temp is at 38 deg F. Constant. No waivering.

So - for those of you with a Sub Zero with a wandering frig temp and with the "vacuum condenser" message on all the time -- I am suggesting that you get service out to look at it immedately. More than likely -- you have a freon leak and the frig cooling is insufficient leading to the error message ("vacuum condenser"). I am guessing that my frig was running all the time leading to a higher electric bill (potentially -- an extra $10 - $15/month * 12 months * 5 years of owning the house = $600 - $900 of money thrown out the window.

Hope this helps!

Ron

The tempature is set for 38 degrees, but the refrigerator is only at 47 degrees. Any ideas?

Chartigan - had this problem with my 1998 642 about 5 years ago, and had to have the condenser coils replaced twice- because the refrigerant was leaking. warning signs are: temp is more than 37 degrees [ get a fridge thermometer to monitor], food seemed to spoil quickly, and frequent notices from the display bar to clean condenser . after cleaning it 3 times in a month, when i called the service center they said that warning actually means"call service center" - arrrggghh the manual sure doesnt say that! anyhow - just something to consider, and hope your problem is not this serious.

Condenser needs cleaning need to get grill off 642 model

Before one can get to the two springs, there are a three screws that need to be removed first. Open the refrigerator and freezer doors. Their are two screws on the reefrig side and one on the freezer side in the jamb, at the top. Once these are removed, the SS grill can be tilted forward and the two springs removed.

The best way to clean the condenser is with a paint brush on one side and a vacuum cleaner on the other side. Gently brush teh condenser to loosen the debris. It will be sucked in by the vacuum cleaner.

Subzero 630 hot door jamb

If the door jambs are hot, that is either a dirty condensor or a dead condensor fan motor. Make sure the condensor is vacuumed and check to see if the condensor fan is spinning. It should be running anytime either compressor is on. You can clear the service light by holdint the "alarm: button for 15 seconds or turning the unit off and then on again.
