When i record a video it only records for about 5 seconds. how do i record for a longer time?

How long you can record a video on your camera depends on the amount of memory available. You will need a higher capacity SD card for more memory if you want to be able to record for a longer period of time.

Select "auto power off" on the Main menu. Select a longer time for the camera to stay on before powering off.

Vivicam 8400

I have a ViviCam 8400 and have the same problem UNLESS I buy Duracell Power Pix or Energizer Titanium batteries. These cost more than the regular grade AA batteries, but when I used brand new regular batteries, the camera would turn on for 2 seconds then turn right off. Titanium or Power Pix batteries make the camera work fine. And, because they are made for digital media, they do allow you to use the camera for longer periods of time.

Camera not taking pictures

The camera may be trying to tell you that your flash is turned off in Auto mode, but to get a proper exposure you will need the flash turned on. Try turning the flash on and see if that works.

Hope this helps!

Is the auto power save function employed?

Yes, this camera has an auto power save function to save power. The camera turns off the displays and unnecessary functions if an operation is not made within a minute. (Power Save Function). To restore the power, press any button or key, or turn the exposure mode dial to another position. The length of this period is selectable from 1 min., 3 min., 5 min., or 10 min. in the section 1 of the setup menu. The LCD monitor always turns off if any operation is not made in a minute, and this period cannot be changed. If no operation is done within 30 minutes, the camera shuts itself off. Pressing the power button resumes the camera operation from this condition.
