Question about Webcams

1 Answer

Webcam I was given a Mikomi webcam for use with MSN. I've downloaded the software and when I plug in the webcam my computer recognizes it. A window pops up for the webcam (which I assume should be the picture) but it is just a white box. I have Windows XP and I think I have the required memory. What could be the problem?

No, the white box is a separate window on the screen. It is not in the msn window.

I would uninstall the software the came with the web camera, unplug the camera, and restart the computer.

Once the computer is back up, plug the camera back in and let windows search for the drivers. If it ask for the drivers on the cd go ahead and install it.

Windows XP and Vista contain a lot of built in programs to operate the web camera so most vendor programs are unessesary unless your using windows 98

Hey i have camera. but my cd isnot working too install tht softwear wht can i do can i downlowed softwear from here ?

I researched your question and here is the link to download the drivers and software you need either click the link or copy and paste it into your web browser:

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=ICE

My suggestion is download the software first and install it on your computer, it may prompt you at some point to plug in your web cam during the install but don't plug into your computer until the software prompts you or until the software installs other wise your computer will not recognize it correctly. Once the software installs (if it doesn't prompt you to plug it in) then plug it in. A window will pop up that new drivers or a device is being installed. Once this completes reboot (restart) your computer and you are now ready to use your web cam.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave me some positive feedback.

Every time I try to run my webcam with Windows Live Messenger it freezes my computer and tells me all my windows are "Not responding"

Make sure you are running the latest Internet Explorer - even if you have another browser set as default.
Uninstall your Logitech software and download the latest from Logitech
Visit the Logitech website and browse the photo gallery for your model and click on the photo to navigate to the support page.
Note - Older models on page 2 - look for the link at the bottom right of page 1 and click on it "Still can't find your product?"

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/405/&cl=us,en?prodcrid=405

In addition to the Logitech installer you will need to run the support software - Microsoft DirectX . This comes pre-loaded on most Windows computers but has to be updated - I am currently on version 11
To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.

Procedure to re-install Logitech software
Close all programs while uninstalling - downloading and uploading software
Disconnect your webcam
Uninstall the current webcam software on your computer
Restart computer
Download the Installation package from Logitech
Run the installer and choose your options during the installation - You may not want Logitech Chat but the Desktop icon for the webcam toolbar is a must.
Connect your webcam when prompted.
AUDIO SET UP
XP
Plug in your webcam or headset or mic you wish to use with your webcam
Control Panel (Classic View)
Open 'Sounds and Audio Devices' folder and click on the Audio tab - make your preferred mic the default device in the 'Sound recording window'
Open 'Volume' below the window to ensure the mic is not muted
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
Restart your computer
Configure the webcam / mic to your chat program

VISTA
Plug in your webcam or headset or mic you wish to use with your webcam
TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Right click on the volume graph and select 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'
To set your preferred mic as default - click the mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

If it fails to work here concentrate on your webcam drivers and software before moving forward.

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, after a few seconds, to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - (if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN)
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'

These camera seem to be delicate. Call Microsoft support number that is on the documentation and they will send you another one. I did this and the replacement VX-3000 works perfectly.

UNPLUG the cam. Uninstall all software and drivers related to it. Reboot. Install software and drivers. Just AFTER instaling software plug the cam back in. I hope that helps you.
