I installed a second processor in a compaq xw6000 and I get an error message about the vrm, will notboot

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode you can select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing then select restart if the problem still persists f8 back into safe mode you might need to select your operating sytem to load into safe mode click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option
hope this helps

When I try to boot it simply says windows rootsystem 32hal.dll missing or corrupt, replace the missing file. How to go about it.

HAL stands for Hardware Abstraction Layer. As it's a hardware related file it is not wise to copy from another computer. You need to reinstall by a bootable cd. try an external Cd drive if you don't have one.

or Restore your PC to the time that it worked well

All Programs-> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

then check 'Restore my computer an earlier time" and select the date your computer worked well

and next next next next finally Restart your computer

Can't retrieve files after backup is done. Error message

Typically if you have a hard drive, you can slave it to a working computer and manually go in and copy the files onto the working computer and mess with them there.

Whatever program created the backup files is the one you need to open them, but copying them should not be a problem unless they are protected via password or encryption.

I googled the file extentions and the .RIM didnt have anything relevent, this is probably because its some file extention thats only used by a particular device just lik 3g files for phones. You would need the device or program that created it to access it.

.isb files seem to be audio files of some type.

Laptop failure

Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 about 10 times during the post screen. Then completely remove your video drivers. Then reboot, into windows normally, go to the Nvidia web site and download the latest graphics drivers for the video card that you have. If this does not solve your problem, then you may have bad video memory on your video card.
