Question about Canopus ADVC-300 A/D Converter Video Capture

4 Answers

Voodoo envy i'm looking for the user manual When capturing using the Canopus ADVC-300, the video is very dark.  Is there a way to fix this?  If I still had the users manual, I may be able to find out but they make it almost impossible to get a new one.

This is actually normal for the device. If you don't like it, return it if you can. There is no way to change it and there have been many complaints with the darkness of the video related with this device.

sorry to tell you this but let me know if you have any more questions

Try changing the mode in which you take the video.

I can capture video into FINAL CUT from VHS deck via ADVC-300, but there is no audio. Is this common?

it should not be. Are you getting audio signal levels on the ADVC-300? I think it may be a connection problem. I always get audio from vhs, even through a camera or hdv deck. Never mind a converter box.

Sounds like you're feeding the ADVC the wrong broadcast format. Either PAL when the ADVC is in NTSC mode, or NTSC when the ADVC is in PAL mode.

Alternatively, your capture software may have a broadcast format setting as well, and that may not be matching what the ADVC is sending out. Remember that the ADVC does not do NTSC<->PAL format conversion, so NTSC analog input becomes NTSC DV, and PAL analog input becomes PAL DV.

Vhs pal video not working

Change the DIP switch to PAL, unplug the unit (no power), then plug it back in. You need to power-cycle the unit to after changing DIP switch settings.

Also make sure that your capture application is set to PAL mode, if there is a NTSC/PAL setting.
