Have the same problem. It does not seem to be the temp control because the freezer is working. We are in the process of testing the fan to see if that is the issue and will post back...any other ides would be helpful. Seems this fridge is a lemon based on all the probems posted on-line and the company support is horrible.

I have the same problem - freezer is working fine - refrigerator side is not cooling and light is out in refrigerator side

  • dotproduct Jun 13, 2008

Originally the lights went out in my refrigerator, while I was diagnosing that the fridge temp dropped to 60. The lights are fixed by replacing the control board in the back of the fridge (you will not find this part on any diagram that whirlpool puts out. I had to order the electrical schematics and after a LONG LONG wait found the part and ordered it, it fixed the light problem) the temperature was not fixed unfortunately. I have had the whole refirgerator apart and the compressor works fine, the temperature control in the top left of the fridge seems to work fine. The fan is working to blow the air, I defrosted the fridge and the duct from the freezer to the fridge is NOT clogged with ice. I have read on a few sites the issue of a relay switch being bad, but I don't know if that would hold true with the freezer staying at a constant 0-10 degrees and the refrigerator staying at 60-70 degrees. The self-test that repairmen can do says the unit is working fine with no problems. This problem make NO sense. Everywhere I read about, no one has found a solution and calling in a repairman seems to have run into hundreds, yes hundreds, of dollars and still no fix. Only under warranty if it is part of the "closed system" and repairmen seem to have replaced lots of non-warranteed parts to no avail with other people. Some people gave up and bought a new refrigerator. I have 3 little kids, no money and alot of willpower and smarts. I need a working refrigerator. SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS A SOLUTION...PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello Patrickbono,

I understand that your are having a problem with your fridge it is not getting cold. However, the freezer is cooling just fine this is a common occurrence when the evaporator fan goes out in the unit. Here is a tip you can follow to help you diagnosis the problem

Fridge not getting cold?

I would suggest you call the service tech as the unit is still under warranty and have them to replace the fan and check the rest of the unit.

Frige not cooling, freezer is fine

its the problem of defrost timer.due to this the cold air from freezer section is not getting in to refrigerator section and its getting warm.check out the defrost timer.located beside the compressor at the back lower side of the unit.the cost of new defrost timer is near to $40.and you can get it from

In my side by side samsung RS2534WW the rerigerator is warm

I read elsewhere that if you hold the power cool and power freeze buttons down for 12 seconds it will restart the system. I did it the other day (because we were having the same issues) and it has seemed to work for the last few weeks. Frige temp stays at 34F and freezer temp stays at -2F

Frige problem

This is almost a word for word common problem. On frost free fridge freezers of this type all cooling is generated through the freezer side and is merely forced into the fridge side through airflow. Therefore if you have a problem with the fridge you have a problem with the freezer section. The most likely cause is that the coil is frozen up. We would always suggest defrosting unit overnight in case it was simply a door left ajar being the cause of the fault. If the unit then pulls the fridge temp down and it was not the door ajar then you probably have a defrost problem (heater or defrost thermostat, or defrost timer). If it fails to pull the fridge temp down on restarting then it could be the fan or part of the defrost circuit or even possible the cooling circuit. The normal outcome after defrosting is that the temp will drop in the fridge due to air circulation improved, which will probably remain cool for 2-3 weeks until the coil becomes frozen again. On either result I would contact an engineer on the 2nd failure occurrs so that the engineer can establish the exact cause. Hope this helps.
