Small hazy blue area bottom right when tv is turned on--but by about one half hour's time, the entire screen has the hazy blueness. I don't want to be taken by the "repairperson", so I just need some solid direction before calling. If it's going to cost more than the tv is worth--I'll just pitch it.

This is simple--this model is prone to bad picture tubes--blue is most common--screen goes bright blue and set shuts off--set is detecting too much current being drawn--forget replacing the tube--very expensive as only available on rebuild basis.
Here is what to try: 1) you need to remove entire plastic grill under screen--held in one of two ways--either several screws on back on either side or two screws at bottom front under caps.
2) With it free, pull up from bottom and tilt entire grill to the left--the front controls are mounted in it and you will need to undo some ties that hold it to get it out of the way.
3.) Grill has tabs at top that tuck in and you lift it from bottom.
4.) Remove small inspection plate behind grill--a few screws.
5.) Directly behind grill you will find a square black plastic block with 6 shafts (they are controls) One row left to right will be marked Focus--do not touch those. The other row will be marked screens. Look closely (green is the middle one) as each will have r,g,b in small black letters.
6.) In your case LOCATE THE BLUE SCREEN CONTROL. Best way to do this is take set to unused video input and turn blue SCREEN down (usually to the left and less than 1/4 turn) until the blue just goes away---on blank input you should only see VIDEO 1 etc in green.
Do not turn down too much--just enough so blue is not there--no blue background or curved lines.
THIS MAY ONLY BUY SO EXTRA LIFE OUT THE SET AS ALL THESE HAD ALL THREE TUBES HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
You only have seconds if the set is shutting down, Once you get the blue down enough set will stay on.
Take to regular channel and with color all the way off--you should have a black and white screen, adjust just a little if needed.
I have done this many times and most get another year or more out of the set--if one of the tubes is causing this (very likely) sooner or later it may get worse and return to the point where adjusting does not help--when this happens replace the set.
If this has told you something that helps you or you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.
If you have questions let me know BEFORE you attempt it.
Odds are real good that the cooling fluid in the blue picture tube assembly has become contaminated. Only solution is to pull blue crt and dump out old fluid and clean and reinstall new fluid. Once done a fair amount of re-alignment is required. This is not a job for a do-it-yourselfer. Most tv shops would charge in the area of $250 to $300 for this repair.
Hello! I have a 32" Vizio LCD...within 30 minutes of the tv being turned on, black lines start running through the bottom half of the screen and eventually blacking out the bottom half of the tv screen. It also doesn't have anything to do with the ratio as I have tried that. HELP!
video card too much heat, is the LG itself real warm after a short turn on time? take monitor and hook to another PC and see if problem is there also. check connections in back of PC and LG are secured.
Check any magnatic device near TV which causes purple color on screen. That device can be Speaker, Electronic toy, Watch like that carring piece of magnet inside. Remove that device and turn OFF your TV for half a hour, then power again. Hope the color will be fine n normal on entire screen.
