I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited that the rear window just falls down. Last week I heard a small bang in the door, and after that the window would not let up or down electrically, but started falling down. After checking, I could push the window up or down with my hand. Any ideas what is causing this?
Thanks
This is common with most Jeeps. The window regulators are ****. Both of my back window regulators in my Jeep failed overnight within a week. I called Jeep about it and they pretty much said ya, it's not a safety recall even though my Jeep could have been stolen without anyone having to break in. Instead of paying $800-$1000 from the Jeep dealership to get them fixed, I opted to go to home depot and get some of those thick aluminum flower hangers and bent them so that they hang my windows up and mounted them using bolts and washers. The windows won't roll down, but at least I'm not paying for more regulators to go bad in the future. Do a search online and you will see mega horror stories from people constantly replacing them with no payback from Jeep. This is definitely the only Jeep I will ever own. Chrysler/Jeep sucks for customer support. I would not recommend changing a window regulator unless it's on their dime, but good luck with that!!
We've fixed this 4 times on our 2003 so I did research and found this explanation: It has seemed to be a problem. Due to the center console it is easy for the arm to rest on the switch for the rear driver side window. This causes the spring that controls the window to break. It seems as if it is off track. You just need a new window regulator. Unfortunately it is a dealer item and unless you you go to a junkyard it's expensive.
You need to replace the window regulator. Easy DIY for about $100 in parts or pay dealer $500....

I had the same problem first the drivers side rear window and 2 weeks later the passengers rear window, all you can do is replace the regulator, you can get them from Mopar.
I have replaced both rear window regulators and now the passenger side has broken again! It was under extended warrenty before but now it's my dime - this should be a recall issue!!
