Question about Sharp Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

OUR R-530BS BS PURCHASED IN 1998 SERIAL # 115170 has a problem with the door. It will not open. I have lubricated it with WD 40 to no avail. I finally did get it to open with a sharp rap using the handle of a screw driver, and added more WD 40, but with out any improvement. Is it worth a trip to the repair shop? Have to slam door to get oven to operate

Try a) Lubricate the latches. I sprayed wd-40, you probably can use vegetable oil. Both sides, latch and receptor. Just doing this may fix your problem. (I have to admit I did part b first before trying this so I am not sure, but after doing this, it made my part b fix work even better)

b) Failing this, I found opening it up (t-20 torx screw driver) and tying a wire in the top hole, through the bottom latch body and fastening to a bottom hole of the microwave frame to force the mechanism to stay in place. You want to pull it towards the oven cavity. This will keep it from bending out of alignment. I found that it is only the bottom latch that has to catch for the microwave to sense the door is closed.

Door not opening properly, and keypad problem

The door is the simple bit. Loosen the hinge side of the door, (Underside hinge) and align the door hooks. The panel will require replacing as there is nothing to service on the keypad.

Will not operate. Does have power as the clock works.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

How do I change the light bulb on my sharp R-530BS

You have to remove the shell. Screws are in the back and may require special tool (torx, security). Be certain to remove power and be very careful as the shell will have many sharp edges. The bulb is along the right side (as you face the oven opening). It is a specialty bulb you will have to order from an appliance parts house (or try e-bay).

Panasonic door handle (not push button) hard to open

I have had some success by taking WD-40 and lifting up on the hooks sticking out of the door and spray under the Bottom part of the hook into the door area. That lever guides through a metal slot that is part of the inner door. Sometimes that will help. I know you have to open the door but yanking it like that will eventually break off the metal huide part of the door and the inner door will have to be replaced.

Sharp R 530BS-sensor cook doesn't work. It appears to work but

In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man. Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the price of a new one.

if you spray wd 40 or a light oil on a rag and work it into the glue this will break down the glue and make it easier to clean up.
Hope that helps...

There may be a grease buildup on the sides of the door open button.

Or there may be enough wear on the prong ends of the back side of the door open button or the face of the door open lever so that it is not pushing the latches up high enough to open the door.

The outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this.

You can find an exploded view by entering your model number here:

On the exploded views, the door open lever is reference # 2-6 and the door open button is reference # 3-5.
