Question about Lexmark X73 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Black won't print

I just installed two new cartridges (color and black) and the color works great but the black is not working at all. I have cleaned the print nozzles and contact points and have also reloaded the driver/software from the Lexmark website. Help!! :)

    i changed both colour and black cartridges, colour works fine, black doesn't print very well, get a light grey on max photo setting but when try clean cartridge heads 2lines of black at the top of the bar and 2-3 lines at the bottom I'vetried everything except launching the printer out the window.

Black printer ink not working as well at 100%


There are several possible issues with the refilled cartridges. Nozzle clogging; dirty contacts; static electricity transfered from your bare hands to contacts on cartridge damaging the circuitry; and more.

Clean the contacts on the cartridge using a pencil eraser. If that doesn't help, you should get a new cartridge and see if it fixes the problem.

No color printing


Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

I have installed a new black and color cartridge and still I have a color cartridge replace error message. What do i do?


Your color cartridge may need some cleaning. Remove the color cartridge from your printer. Then close the printer cover. Use a moistened soft cloth and gently wipe the cartridge nozzles to clean the dirts and clogs. Unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert the color cartridge and make sure it's properly inserted and secured in the cartridge carrier. Try to print again. If error continues, try to insert a different known working color cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

Try to reseat your cartridges. Unplug and replug your printer into the power source to reset itself. If that doesn't help, try to clean your cartridges and check if print quality improves. If you're using Windows, go to Start -> Programs -> Lexmark X74-X75 -> Lexmark X74-X75 Solution Center -> Maintenance -> Clean print nozzles to fix horizontal streaks.

Here is my advice:

Step one: Run the clean print cartridges utility

1.
Press the Setup button.
2.
Press the down arrow key.
3.
Select Clean Print Cartridge and then press OK . The device prints a test page.
4.
Examine the test page. If the print quality of the page is good, stop here. If the print quality is bad, go on to the next step for further cleaning.
5.
Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
*
Open HP Solution Center , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
*
Open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and choose Properties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Features tab, then click the Printer Services button.
6.
The Printer Toolbox opens. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , then follow the on-screen instructions. Up to three levels of cleaning are available. Discard or recycle the page that prints.

Step two: Replace the problem cartridge (you probably have a defective cartridge)
If a cartridge replacement was not tried previously to solve this problem, replace the problem cartridge now

Cause and prevention
Color mix is usually caused by a material touching the nozzles. Ink can wick along the material and travel from nozzle to nozzle. When different colors of ink mix in this way, the result is muddy, inaccurate colors.
Missing colors occur when the cartridge nozzles dry out, or when a color is exhausted because of specific printing demands.

*
Do not remove the protective tape from a new print cartridge until just before you install it. Once you remove the tape, do not reapply it.
*
After you have removed the protective tape, do not allow anything to touch the nozzles.
*
Print at least once a month to keep the print cartridges in good working order.
*
Always turn the printer off by pressing the button on the printer control panel, rather than by unplugging the printer. Turning the printer off properly allows it to protect the cartridges.
*
If you are removing a cartridge from the printer temporarily (for instance, removing the black cartridge in order to install the photo cartridge), put it in a cartridge protector.
*
If you do not have a cartridge protector and need to remove a cartridge temporarily, put it in an airtight plastic tub. Make sure nothing touches the nozzles. Do not use a plastic bag. If you intend to store print cartridges in a tub for a long period of time, place color cartridges with the nozzles down, and black cartridges with the nozzles up. New ink cartridges. Printer won't print and does not show the new cartridges.

If you installed new cartridges in teh color slot and it will not print from the computer in color, go into the printer setup menu, a button on the printer should take you here, and print an alignment page. If this fails to print correctly, select to perform a deep cleaning. This will use a lot of ink but will insure your nozzles are working correctly. If nothing prints or the color still isn't correct you will need to either manually clean the nozzles or have someone clean them. To be honest, depending on the cost of the printer it maybe more cost effective just to get a new printer than to have your manually cleaned. As inexpensive and printers are today I don't even replace cartridges anymore except for the black one. When the color runs out I get a new printer. The printer runs 35 to 39 dollars the color cartridge runs 35 to 37 dollars. But I don't do a lot of color printing. It is a choice the individual has to make.

The black ink cannot be


Are you confident the new cartridge is full and in-date? Can you confirm that the old cartridge was not removed until immediately before the new cartridge was installed? Did you remove the yellow tape from the new cartridge before you installed it? Was the black cartridge change properly completed such that an ink charging cycle occurred? Have you carried out any head cleaning cycles? If not, do it. Have you done a nozzle check print? If not, do it. Any sign of black ink? Yes, but not perfect? If not, do a couple more head cleans and nozzle checks. If still not perfect, let it rest for 24 hours to disperse air bubbles. Then repeat.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're sure you have a good ink cartridge properly installed, then there are other things we can try - assuming other solutions haven't worked either. Report back on my queries etc.

I just installed a new black ink cartridge and it won't print. My new color one will. It worked fine until it ran out of ink and I replaced it with a new one.

Canon IP90 portable . No ink printing.


Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.

Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.

After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.

If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.
