You have a defrost problem there are Three parts to it a Defrost control board a Defrost Heater and a Defrost bi-metal thermo-disc I would check the heater first it is in the coils you are defrosting

Side by side fridge freezer

That sounds like one of your cooling tubes is frosted up IF your fan is working. Pull the read freezer shield off and check for an ice buildup around the evaporator coil. If so, defrost circuit problems. If not, use a hair dryer and blow air down the cooling tubes to defrost the tubes.

Your cooling comes from the freezer side through cooling tubes to the refrigerator side.

The first thing is to make sure that the evaporator fan is working, because that will blow the cold air into the refrigerator side. If it is working then you probably have an ice build up around the evaporator. You will need to remove the inner rear panel of the freezer to check it.

If there is a lot of ice on the evaporator fins then your defrost circuit is not working. But if you manually defrost the freezer (a hair dryer will speed it up) and make sure the cooling tubes are clean of ice (can feel the air from the hair dryer on refrigerator side) then you will have anywhere from a few days to a few weeks before the ice build up returns.

So you should troubleshoot your defrost circuit and get the parts on order to be ready for the next time.

Freezer is icing up behind back panel, so fridge not cooling

There are two components that are supposed to take care of this problem. One is a heater that defrosts the system (not really frost free) and the other is a timer that turns the heater on and off at predetermined intervals.
If the heater or timer fails, the system will frost up and block the path of cool air not allowing the freezer to cool down.

Fridge part is not cooling; freezer is frosting up

your ref. has a defrost problem.you will need to take back panel off inside freezer and take your hair dryer again and defrost the system.then you can check your heater, thermostat which is located at top of coils that were defrosted.sometimes the thermostat will pop and not allow it to go into defrost and you need to check defrost timer.
