Assuming a wireless router, U should secure any access to Ur system from others. It's done with a paraphase or code at the router or U can restrict access by selecting the known allowed MAC address'.

Hi,
although I don't support IP Pirates(if they can afford not to be). there is one trick that may help but not if the security on the router is strong as they can set it to only hand out 1 number. However if you know the IP(192.168.0.2) that is being handed out. then you can manually set the wireless adapter on the second system to have an IP that is +1(192.168.0.3) (instead of a DHCP setting)of the number you are given. make sure the gateway and subnet mask is exactly as is handed out to the first system.
you can easily view this info. from a command prompt and typing:ipconfig /all

GL
hope this helps

You must have a wireless adapter installed in your new PC. Assuming there is already one, then you need to identify what type of security you use with your wireless router.
If you don;t have any security installed, then you can just search for wireless access points and then you should be able to connect to your router. The danger with not having security is others can also easily connect to your router and network and possibly hacked to your systems and also eat up on your internet bandwidth.
The easiest security is to have a password installed before you can access the router. When you search for wireless, you just choose your wireless and then you must know the password so you can access it. You can save the password so don't have to do it everytime you connect. There's still a possibility though that someone can hacked your password, but not likely in a regular environment.

Another option is to register the MAC address of all of your PC in the router so only your own PCs can connect. This is a little bit more technical though so you may want to hire a tech for this.

My laptop will not connect to my Internet. It says it's connected to an unknown network with an invalid Ip address. I don't know how to kix it at this point.

You must be connected wireless. I believe your in 1 of 2 situations.
First of all, when you connect to a wireless network, the network assigns you an ip address. When it's YOUR network you already have an ip address and if someone connects to you they would get that.
Either you have a wireless network that is un-secure and someone else nearby is connected to it. Or someone else in the area has an unsecured network and you have mistakenly connected to them.
You must setup your router properly with a network name (SSID) behind a secure firewall with WPA-2 security. WEP security can be hacked very easily.
Go to the website of the router you have and look for setup features or go to the manual. It's really not that hard if you have the time to do it and know one bothers you during it.
You can also go to,
http://www.youtube.com/ In the "Youtube" search , Type "wireless router setup" and chose from the drop-down menu or type in yours.

What is ip mapping? and how i can use two or more internet connection at a same time?

IP mapping is the practice of recording multiple devices within a network by their IP address to assist in troubleshooting.

You can connect multiple devices to one modem using a router. The router splits and directs the signal from the modem. If you are using auto-detection for internet connection, they should pick up their addresses automatically, however you will need to have someone set up the router to path properly.

on your computer try to reinstall the device driver for wireless. try to connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer. if you have internet access, then most likely your netgear router needs to be reconfigured. you need to contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer for the reconfiguration of your router. mostly likely the security settings of the router needs to be changed.

I have recently aquired a router and a Wireless PCI Card. Although I am automatically on the internet when I boot up my Computer,I keep getting a message on screen that I have limited or no conectivity....

the limited connectivity means that your router is not connected wirelessly probably because you have not entered the correct passkey, or it's still giving your lan RJ45 network cable the ip address and this is why you are still connected to the net.

If you are on a Netgear modem/router as i suppose you are if it's from sky, you should connect the RJ11 phone line cable into the router leading to a broadband filter, then connect the filter to your phone socket.

There should be no wires between your pc and the router, so take out the wire that is connected to the router (RJ45), which you should have used to set the router up coming from your onboard wired network card.

You will now be connected only via wireless connection, right click on the wireless network icon in your taskbar, click show all connections and then click on your SKY****, whatever it is and then you will need to enter the WPA-PSK security passkey which is with your Sky paperwork or on the router itself.

How do I lock my netgear wgr614 router, so no-one else can use my internet access?

You can set up you virus control to advise you if someone else is trying to use your wireless network. Investigate all the options available in your virus control.. It should be under network security. Also, when I am not using my computer I turn the main internet switch off.

My gateway lapton found a wireless connection to connect to, but once it is connected is not connecting to the internet

You can connect to a wireless router that isn't password secure, but if the router isn't configured to hand out ip addresses you can't get internet access. You need to know what address the router is on, and statically assign your laptop an address and gateway pointing to that router.

It's best to make friends with the neighbour and get the address.

My laptop is already wireless so I know I don't need the flash drive or the software that goes with it. Laptop already connects to internet with cord- no probs. Router is ZyXEL Prestige 660HW- T1....

there is a problem with the security feature of your wireless router (SSID - Service Set Identifier). the most effective solution for this is reseting the router but pressing the small hidden button at the bottom part of the w-router itself. it will automatically reset your router.

the reason why you always connect to a different router is because your router rejects your attempt to connect to it and you computer automatically searched for another router in the area and connect itself to it.

Cause of the issue:

* you forgot the password or (SSID - Service Set Identifier)
* someone put a password on your router without you knowing it
* you accidentally inputted a password or (SSID - Service Set Identifier)

Hope this one works! Because i am sure with it!

Your good rating will be much appreciated, thanks!
