GE JVM1440BD Won't Heat

Everything seems to work, fan, light, turntable, sounds normal but won't heat at all. Has worked fine for 7 years. I noticed it has a 9 year magnatron warranty but I have to pay for service call and labor. I think I can get new equivilent for $300. Can I veryify it's the magnatron before ordering?

Noise is normal. I hear a relay kick in 1/2 second after is starts up, but no heat. I am using a multimeter to check components. The door switches seem to work, the two thermostats I can get to work fine. I checked the capacitor. It seems to charge and discharge when I check ohms then revese the leads. I tried to read the diode. I get open in both directions. From my Navy electrical training I think I should get resistance in one direction only. I looked around for a diode on line. I found them from $66.00 to $33.00 from GE. I found one on e-bay for $18.00 I will try when it comes in, maybe I'll get off cheap. Not sure how to check the MAG with a meter.

If it making a louder than normal humming or grunting sound when operating, than it's a sure bet it's the MAG.

The diode needs at least 6 volts to measure forward breakdown conduction. Suggest 9v battery with LED and 100 ohm resistor to measure diode. Measure the voltage at the primary of the high voltage transformer when in operation. If no line voltage, cavity thermostat (usually located on top of cavity) may be open. MAG difficult to measure with ohmmeter..terminal to terminal around 0.3 ohms each terminal to case, infinity.

GE eterna spacemaker microwave won't heat

The problem is a magnetron, "heart of the system" or the inverter board, "if 7 years old or less" and possibly the keypad control board, all of these items are not cheap and lethal voltages are present.

you will have to replace the microwave, sounds like a burned out magnetron, replacing the magnetron is almost as expencive as a new oven...

Suggest you pull the plug out, remove outer cover and place a cup of water into the micro. Set power to minimum then switch on and take note if the fan works or not. If not, switch off immediately and have it replaced(magnatron will burn out if left to run without fan.)

MICROWAVE NOT HEATING

Most likely you have a magnetron problem. Easy to replace (DYI) but make sure the high voltage capacitor is fully discharged first against the case.

The microwave does not heat..after reading everything about the magnetron my one question is this an easy job that an ammature can tackle or do I really need to call in a service man?

I'm having the same problem with my microwave -- GE JVM1533WD 002.
The inside light, cooling fan and turntable are all working but it is no longer heating food when the Start button is hit.
The unit is noticeably louder than normal, too.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Have GE JVM2050 over the range microwave, which stopped heating food and water since this morning. All other functions including light, key pad, clock, turntable work normal. The magnetron sound also

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00

GE JVM1640 won't heat

These microwave ovens have a series of door switches. One of yours has gone bad or a plastic finger on your door mechanism that pushes the switches is worn or broken off. They are commonly called NC or NO swithes some ovens have up to 6 of these working together. If you have no expertise in this field consult a repair shop. Please rate me
Comment posted on Jan 12, 2009 there are two types ,normally open and normally closed, NO NC . u have to check continuity on each one and each switch will have a diagram on the side showing its in use position. I hope this has been helpful
