SOURCE: picture is warped (three colors diverge at edges

WS-55857 uses two STK-392-570 convergence IC's----you may have bad solder connections on them but what is more likely(I have seen this in sets that Mitsubishi made that use this chip) is that some of the pins are broken loose inside one or both of the chips.

Considering the labor to get the board out to resolder it, might as well just replace BOTH of the chips------Usually this repair can be done right in your home and takes about an hour.

If you are able to do it yourself you can buy both chips for less than 15 dollars on Ebay; if you need help I have complete step by step instructions for this repair that tells what you need and how to do the repair---if interested I can email them to you.

If you are not able to do the repair most shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair; look in your area and if they say "needs to go to shop" keep looking; any good tech can do this repair right in your home.

Now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops so look around--I do this kind of repair here for 200-250 depending on the set --right in someones home! I have done hundreds of these sets.

If you need any help or would like the instructions reply to this comment here.

I do this for free here so if it helped you take a minute and give me a vote here.

SOURCE: warpped TV picture

There are two problems here but may be caused by one component

The flyback transformer or transistor equivalent is faulty The colors are warped convergence controls which may be due to a faulty sustain board or part of the first problem. DIY is not an option and repair estimate is about $3-400.00

How to fix a Vizio M420SL Edge Lit LED TV with dark corners

Edge lit sets have a tendacy of having sections of the backlights bad, there are 4 to 8 zones with about a dozen lamps in each zone, if you have dim edges the outside sets have failed. The issue with replacing them is the lamps get very warm before buring out and in most cases, it damages the defuser panel, so it doesn't spread the light correctly. Start by taking the screen (panel) out and defusing screens and see if the thick one is damaged, either cracked or warped, if it is it's time for a new TV, if it looks ok you can get parts from shoppjimmy.

Double vision on the left edge slightly

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Heavy green picture abd the edges are wavey

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com
