Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1: Windows

Still didn't work

I made the mistake of installing Linksys network on my Dell desktop which uses Vista.
I downloaded CC cleaner as you suggested but the Linksys program does not show up in the tools section.
It shows up in my "network" & when I open the Linksys icon & try to "disable" it states "not possible to disconnect, currently busy with connect or disconnect operations" Any other ideas?

    sorry to be so confusing!

I had Linksys router attached to my old desktop & laptop computers - everything worked fine. Then we got a new desktop (Dell) which has Windows Vista. I then t ried to install the Linksys network on the new desktop. It never installed properly.

Since I did that my laptop can no longer access the wireless signal in our home.

I don't care about the network feature, I don't exchange files or printers. I just want to be able to use my laptop wireless in my home. I am unable to delete Linksys from my desktop as the file shows up in network, not on computer files

what type or internet connection are you using? hot wired or wireless? what type of wireless card are you using? is it a dell wireless or intel wireless? does it recognized other networks? do you have an invalid ip address like 169? try resetting your linksys router.

Just to clarify a few things: Have you removed the Linksys router from your home network or is it still being used by other computers? If it's still connected to your network, then you will see it in your "network" (which I'm assuming you are getting to by clicking the Start button -> Network?). Is it preventing you from getting on your home network?

Originally I thought you installed a Linksys card in your laptop, but it sounds to me that you purchased a router which would connect to your home network (cable, DSL, etc). Is that correct?

Did you install the driver? you also have to be sure that you installed a vista driver....if your cd-driver for linksys does not work download the vista driver from teh linksys website. i also suggest if you can't install the vista driver for your linksys properly i suggest you copy the driver to a cd and install it from there( meaning install the router using the cd). I also suggest you uninstall it from the control panel- add/remove programs before installing the new driver. also try installing the driver or linksys w/ your firewall off it also has to be configured to allow the program

Cailintech has good suggestions. One thing though, make sure that the router is not hooked up when you are trying to uninstall because there will be files being used which you want to have uninstalled and by default, Vista won't usually allow that.

Since I am short for time, I am making a couple of assumptions without checking them for correctness before recommending.
Some routers are set up to a computer by going to an ip address and going through the setup process. If the router is not soft-linked to your network, and since it is between your modem and your computer, it could and probablyu will foul up everything.

If you call linksys, they should help you. If they say there is a charge for help, try to call back a couple of times to see if you can get a friendly tech support person. Also see if they have on-line chat. Many times, that is a way to get support with out having to pay. I don't think this will be an issue.

Good Luck!

My Dell laptop running Vista Home Premium has become very slow. The tech says my "microsoft security layer" has expired and needs to be renewed. As a result there are infected files. Is this...

Microsoft security is an antivirus program. Yes, if the antivirus has expired it no longer protects the pc and it has became infected. No, it's not part of Windows, of any one of them. What you had it installed when you purchased was an reduced functionality one that was offered with a rebate and the licence for it has expired after an year.
Since the system is now fully infected you must uninstall the expired antivirus and install a new one. This one is free for home use

Are you installing the driver from the CD?

Try downloadingg the driver from their site.

1. Download the file: 1312series_full_solution_v5.0_AM-EMEA.exe (306 MB)
2 Use the full download from the website and it self extracts to your root directory. To run the self extracting file, first set the compatibility mode to Vista sp2 and run as admin.
3) The files remain and you can find them here:
4) Set the compatibility mode to Vista sp2 and run as admin on the Setup.exe.
5) Run the full install. Works for both usb or network.

Vista Home won't boot

NeoSmart Technologies offers a download called Vista Recovery Disk in .iso format. Download and mount the iso with your favorit burning program. Boot to the cd to access the recovery center. Hopefully you'll be able to repair your Windows Vista installation or restore to a known good configuration.

Linksys network program incompatible with Vista

Try this:
  1. Download and install CC Cleaner
  2. Open CC Cleaner
  3. Click "Tools" in the left-hand column
  4. To the right you'll see a list of programs to uninstall, click on the Linksys program and Run Uninstaller
  5. Reboot if it asks you too, then reopen CC Cleaner
  6. Click "Tools" again, and choose "Startup" on the right this time
  7. Check to see if there are any lingering references to the Linksys software. If you find any Linksys Keys, delete them.
If this resolves that issue, try going to the Linksys support website to see if they have a Vista compatible software.

Hope this helps! : )
