The drivers U R using must be for XP. I'm assuming that the pc started out with vista.

Have U checked with the ethernet manufacturer or am I not paying attention and thats who the ethernet card is made by. If so, XP is kind of picky with some hardware. Try leaving the device connected to the pc. Use control panel - add/remove and uninstall and drivers for the devices. Then use control panel - system - hardware - devices and uninstall the devices in question. Reboot. When the system detects these devices load only the drivers that U downloaded for them.

If it is a different manufacturers for the devices, goto their website and get the XP drivers for them. Save them to a handy location and use the above instructions. Hope this helps.

I hate Vista. I want XP.

Hai,
Yea that's true Vista sucks.....XP best!
If you want to install completely with XP then as usual procedure format the system with your Windows XP CD(C:/ drive only, with FAT32 or NTFS).

It sounds like you didn't do a "clean install" with the XP. A lot of your system is still under the Vista control.

Gateway desktop

Only if it's not an HP labele operating system disc. Otherwise you will need an XP operating system disc, the HP recovery disc with XP will not work with your Gateway or any other manufacturer machine other than HP. The operating system on any manufacturer recovery disc is assigned to that specific manufacturer, so if you try to install from the HP disc it might install, but it will only give you thirty days, then shut down, or it won't install at all. It will be cheaper to purchase an XP operating system disc than all the software over again just for Viiiiiista!!! (I enjoy making fun of Vista) If you have anymore questions or need help feel free to ask.

If you need to reinstall the Winn XP. You need to have the Win XP disk with you, otherwise it wont be possible.

Ethernet problems

I had the same problem. How I got all the drivers I needed I got ahold of an older LAN card like a Realtek 8139 or a 3Com and Windows XP automatically picked it up. I go online and paid the $30 to driveragent.com for a year subscription and scanned for drivers. It picked ALL of them up and I downloaded them there until I was 100%.

You don't have to use Vista. I certainly don't. I hope this helps you.

Change vista to xp on acer laptop

see if there are any drivers in XP for this model to start- if there are not- you are NOT able to convert it back to XP at ALL. Check with acer's tech support to see if it is possible to get drivers or if it is possible to convert it back to xp. Good luck- I'm seeing this problem a lot at the moment and the manufacturers do not care about people that hate vista.
