Yes is the short answer. Sometimes they can take some force to pull out. The gunk is semi-dry softener and the black part is mold, YUCK! BTDT and cleaned it with a scrub brush, hot water, and bleach.
Make sure the washer is level, especially front to back. Do not overload washer. Check to see if marks are coming from build up of gunk in the outer bowl.
Back firing is usually caused by either timing issues or carbon buildup on the electrode of the spark plug. I doubt that the motor in your mower is large enough to have timing issues so it would most probably be the carbon problem. Pull the plug, clean off all the gunk that's accumulated in and around the bottom electrode, That should help the backfiring.
The agitator and s/s bowl needs to be removed for cleaning.
You need to use a pressure washer to remove buildup on s/steel bowl
The bucket aka tub needs to be cleaned also check for items that may block or jam pump at the bottom of the bucket.
reassemble your machine, it should do a better cleaner wash.
If the smoke is blue you are leading oil past the seals, if its black you are running a rich mixture. since its been sitting around for a while you may also have a lot of varnish buildup in the cylinders which will take a while to burn out and will smoke until it does.
If its blue the engine needs new piston rings, not terribly difficult, but not quick fix.
open the top cover and clean all the glass potions there should be a thin stip to the left or right under the cover and cean it making sure there is no gunk buildup
Try this: Remove the rubber pipe that goes to the throttle plate at the end of the intake manifold. Open the throttle flap valve and inspect the interior for excessive carbon buildup (black gunk around the flapper and the outer circular bore)...If it is dirty, get some carb cleaner & spray the daylights out of it until it is clean clean clean. Reattach the tube and start the engine, it will smoke quite a bit until all of the cleaner in the intake is digested by the engine. This should improve the idle. What may be happening is the black gunk may not be letting the throttle valve to close fully, and WILL keep the idle up.
If it's a front load washer do not put to much soap in it!This can gunk it and cause the bearings and seal to go bad! Follow the washer directions for detergent amounts. PS . Please give me a good rating here on fixya.com Thank You ngfam2
