Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver

C340 Just got a c340....says it's trying to locate a satellite. I'm living in Pittsburgh

My Garmin C340 worked fine for about one year and then it started saying "Acquiring Satellite" showing the wrong location where I am located. When I first turn on the unit it shows a Map Updater Notice. I have heard that sometimes if you update the map then this fixes the problem of not acquiring a satellite. Is this true or is the unit broken and I would be wasting $70.00 purchasing an updated version of the map.

    Thank you.

The unit is trying to locate satellites but can't even when not in motion with clear view of skies. It shows the wrong location which was the location when the problem occurred. It can try to locate satellites even for one hour but never does. It happened after one year that the unit was working fine. I am not sure if updating the maps which cost $70.00 would help. It cost $120.00 to buy a new one on E Bay.

Make sure you are outside with a clear view of the sky. It will lock faster if you are not moving.

My c340 stops at "locating satellites". I reset it

If your StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device is no longer acquiring satellites please read the article linked below to ensure that this is not being caused by something in your environment:

Why won't my unit acquire satellites?

If after reading the above article your unit is still having problems, please ensure that your unit's software is up to date. You can do this by using our WebUpdater® program.

If you have tried all of the above suggestions and your unit is still not acquiring satellites, you can perform a master reset by doing the following:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
  3. Power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until a new message displays, "Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data?".
  4. Touch Yes and go through the set up again.
Take the unit outside and let it set with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If the unit still does not acquire satellites after this, please contact Garmin Product Support.

Garmin c340 loses the satellite very frequently. Battery?

1. make sure the unit is as low un the windshield as possible, remember it needs to see the sky, the more sky it can see the more sat it can lock in on.
2. Check the GPS Mode, under tools(Wrench), select system, the GPS mode, make sure it is in the normal setting. WAAS is more accurate, but most of the sats are at the equator, so in some areas the coverage is not as good.
Hope this helps.

Garmin nuvi 350-can not change the location it is stuck on

you may need to reset it, as in resetting the c340, turn off and then press back on again, if this does not work maybe the reset button is in the same place as it is on my c340, instructions for the c340 is as follows: place your thumb nail in the groove located under the Garmin logo on the face plate, gently pull off the face plat, press the reset button, turn the unit back on and hopefully it will operate normally

Searching for satellite

First, be sure you are outside, in the open when making this diagnosis. Some cars have metallic defrosting layers, which blocks the GPS signal. Also, first fix when new may take several minutes (5-10 minutes).

If, when outside in clear view, you still have problems, try this...

Have you tried a hardware RESET? The button is hidden behind the front panel, which snaps off by a fingernail slot located directly under the GARMIN logo on the front panel.

* Use caution removing and reinstalling the front panel... it's somewhat fragile... wiggle it a little to get it off.

Press where it says "Press to Reset", hold for a second or two. Charge the unit with the car cord or USB cable, then try to turn it on again.

Once you can get the unit to (hopefully) turn ON, you should run all updates (there may be several!) using Garmin's Webupdater. (Connect to computer with USB cable first.)

Hope this helps!!

Garmin c340

I tried the reset address over and over to no avail. Finally after it was completely charged, I set it by a window and left in turned on with the finding satellite or whatever it said on it, and went to bed. By the next morning it knew where I was. Give it a try and good luck.
