Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Started with green arch lines on the screen

Now the problem has gotten worse. The green tint on the tv screen starts to fade light then dark in color. Then the whole screen turns green in color. After that the tv power's off and the light flashes eight times. I was wondering where I should go from here. My tv is 5 1/2 yrs old. Any help would be appreciated.

If your TV is a CRT type, then most likley the CRT guns need replacing. If an LCd, then the convergence modules will have to be replaced. it is also possible that you may have a couple faulty resistor/s and/or capacitor/s.

My advice would be to seek the assistance of a TV repairman, as this is not very simple to do if you have no prior experience. Also, it is very difficult to say what exactly is wrong without doing a manual inspection.

OK, you have a CRT TV..
Your problem here has to do with the amount of aging that happens to the three colour tubes - red, green and blue. There is a way to adjust this by removing the speaker grill assembly in front of the set.

On the left hand side behind the speaker cover you will see a black square block with six adjustment points. Look for the one marked SCR GREEN. Switch the set to a unused input. Now adjust the GREEN point counter both clockwise and anti-clockwise. A small adjustment should do it, Switch back to a picture and make sure the whites are still white.

If that doesnt work, then you will have to replace the three CRT tubes. This should sort your problem. I would however suggest asking a Sony service center
to do this for you, if you have no prior experience. This is a dangerous thing to do as you will be
working close to the 35KV supply the the anodes of the three tubes. There are voltages inside that can KILL, even when the TV is unplugged.

I must warn yoou that repair does not come cheap..somewhere in the $400-500 range. If your TV is under warranty, then great! Simply contact your point of purchase.

If not, you will have to decide whether a repair is worth it, or if you'd like to go in for a new TV.

Hope that helps! If the solution I provided helps you in any way, kindly take a moment to "Accept" my solution..

    Thanks in advance :)

Can u tell me the model no of ur tv

problem in CRT gun...Remove cover of ur TV and then do this...

When focused in on the controls, you want to
concentrate on the bottom row for the voltage / ray gun projection
adjustment. The colors are labeled below and from left to right are
blue, green, and red. Choose the one that needs to be adjusted and turn
ever so slightly with your Philips screwdriver to remove the lines. In
my case, the red just needed to be turned 1/8 of a rotation to be back
in adjustment. Do not turn to quickly or abruptly or you could possibly
damage your TV by varying the voltage too quickly.

try it if its not solve means u want to change the gun.....

Picture is very blue, especially in dark scenes.

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

Colors arched and overlapping

if the option for convergence is still listed under the setting section of the on screen menu, then you need a convergence power supply board. If the convergence option is missing from the menu you need the ITC222 convergence missing repair kit. You can get either one at the following link they include instructions for the repair.

sounds like bad CRT, some of these sonys have had defective CRT issues, usually all will come and go sooner or later (all 3 bad), you can pull the speaker grill off(either 2 1/4" screws on bottom or 6 1/4" on back sides) and pull off the Crt box cover (2'X3' piece) and lightly tap the CRT's with tv on, if they flare or get colored streaks in pix they are bad, CALL SONY 800 # and complain, also could adjust G2 (Screen control for color) for short patch. Will need new crts.
