Question about Sony CLIE PEG-NX80V Handheld
So I found on 1src forums, at this link:
that Sony acknowledged a problem with the CCD on NZ90s and was replacing them free (but only until Oct 2007). I have both an NX80V, purchased myself, and an NZ90, given to me by a colleague. Both units have the same problem. Sony wants way too much money to repair either of them, so I am interested in a cheaper solution. It sounds like you repair these things or might even provide some know how on how to repair it myself (given I can obtain the correct replacement part). Are these viable alternatives? How much would you charge to repair the NX80V? Would you be willing to explain how to do it myself?
Thanks for a reply. BTW, bre you located in Europe (as I am)?
Best regards, Frank

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

you could try Sony UK as a last hope. But I reckon a new camera is on the horizon. Even if you get the part - can you fit it- is that among your personal skills?

very easy to replace screen here, just couple of screws, and back cover comes off, exposing the screen. you can buy broken p32 on ebay very cheaply, just look for it to have problems other than the screen

SOURCE: Sony DCR-HC42E LCD not working
(this is a copy of my post from another page, but is relevant to this problem)
I have opened my camera and found that the flexible circuit/ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the inside of the camera is broken. This is due to poor design, in which the flexible circuit cannot withstand the constant movement of the LCD.
I have managed to buy a new cable from a Sony repair dealer, and will attempt to fit it later on this week.
The part number for the new flexible cable is:
Ref no. 171
FP-185 FLEXIBLE BOARD
if you are interested in how I get on with it, you can mail me at email@example.com
I won't bother trying to complain to Sony directly, because it is quite apparent that they really couldn't give a toss.
I have now successfully repaired my camera with a new flexible circuit/ribbon cable, and have made some quick notes that can be found here:

Try this before you get it to the service :
This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras etc .
it sounds crazy .
Remove the back (or Cover ) of the phone( or Camera ), battery, and SIM if your phone ( or Device ) uses one , DIRECTLY
Then, with a q-tip (or something similar), dab the connection points (shiny, goldish) on the battery, SIM, and phone. This should aid in drying.
Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). it sounds crazy , but it draws the moisture out.
It normally is working after just 7-8 hours, but I would wait 12 hours or even 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).
beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, the phone's hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.
This does work on electronic devices aside from phones as well. Simply tailor it to your device. If you do not have a SIM (Verizon phones, cameras, all others), remove only the battery. If you have an iPhone/iPod or GPS and cannot remove the battery, simply make sure it is all the way off, then put it in the rice bag. All electronic devices react the same to the rice trick.
