Question about Kenmore 13.7 cu. ft. / 388 liter Upright Freezer 23424
I have a Kenmore upright freezer that is now approx 1 1/2 yrs old. For some reason when the power goes off for any length of time the freezer sets to a 0 degree default temp. ( which means not cold 7 being the coldest). This has happened several times and I just thought well ok its a fluke until about the 4th time I lost about $400. worth of food. I am told that there is no recall on this . I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Kenmore 13.7 cubic ft. 388 liter freezer.

It sounds like the unit is low on freon or the compressor is going bad. You have several other components that could be affecting this as well. Make sure the coils are free from dust and clean underneath. This is a bit premature for you to have problems now, especially since it is a Sears product.

Hi, The walls are getting hot because that is where the condesor coils are. The condensor coils are where the heat is disperst that is trap as the coolant pumps through the evaporator coils inside. The fact that it is holding 0 degrees is a good sign. Is this freezer in a garage?
Check the door seals to make sure no heat is getting into the freezer other then when the door is opened.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

The lower hinge on each door
may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this
assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not
seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if
it rises up when opened.
Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the door in place. Put something between the bottom of the door and the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.
