After taking the bottom cover off, I noticed that it's the cheap string that's broken and not the spring. I'm assumming that's pretty easy to replace? I've ordered the parts and just waiting. Any tips on replacing it would be appreciated.

What you need to do is unscrew the screws at the top of the dishwasher that's securing the unit to the countertop. gently pull the d/w out from underneath the counter.. please be careful because you may have a copper water line connected to the d/w. if so, then you must remove the line because the copper does not allow you to move the d/w around without the copper line beginning to leak. if you have any other line you can maneuver ok. also, check to see if the electrical line is long enough. if not, secured the power and disconnected the electrial line. when you have all of the restriants out of the way, then pull the d/w out and reconnect the springs. you have 2 spring configurations. you can look at the other side that's not broken to see how to put the other side on. usually only 1 side breaks. you'll need to order the string that connects the spring to the plactic figure 8. take a look at each side and you'll see what im taking about. thanks.

Door wont close - I have taken off hinges and they look ok. Is it possible that the hinge opening on the inner door has been stretched when I overextended the door with heavy turkey pot

It is very likely the control lock has been set on the oven. This means the door latch is unable to enagage with the oven lock. If you have turned off the power at the circuit breaker and there is no change, then you may try the Cancel button on the oven pad. Might be helful if you can provide the full model number of the oven.

My KitchenAid Dishwasher door won't stay closed. It keeps popping open after a few seconds.

I experienced the same problem after my tension cables broke. The door fell open with such force that it bent the hinges a little. If you've replaced the tension strings (which you should do every 5-8 years) then you don't have to replace the latch. I did and it didn't solve the problem.
Here's the solution:
Put a towel at the bottom of each side of the door by the hinge.
Push the door closed a couple of times to bend back the hinges.
Remove the towels and you're back in action.
Good luck

Kitchenaid diswasher replaced control panel and dishwasher is not working again

Check the door switch, it could be a loose wire or broken door latch switch.

My Kitchenaid diswasher soap dispenser door does not open automatically everytime. glasses and dishes are not getting clean and have film on them Please help.

Check the way you're loading your dishwasher. Sometimes large plates or baking pans can block the door of the dispenser. The latch may unlock but because the door is blocked, the detergent can't get out. Once you open the main door, the dispenser door pops open and looks as if it has been in the fully opened position when it was actually held in place by that large utensil! Cutting boards are major blockers as well.
I hope this helps. If it does, please come back to fixya and rate my answer

KitchenAid KUDSO1FLSS5 - door pops open

I am an experienced techician and have tried all these solutions in the past sometimes at no avail. But replacing the tub which has a limited lifetime warranty along with hinge arms will solve the issue. This has such a margional clearance I can never see anything visible causing the door to pop open

The dishwasher door keeps popping open

I have the same problem and it appears that everyone else who has replaced the door seal runs in top this issue. This is a new seal design that is different from the original. This new seal is obviously poorly designed is placing too much pressure on the door causing it to either not close, or open mid cycle. I am presently duck taping the door closed when running the machine in the hope that the heat cycling the new seal will eventually cause it to deform and relieve the pressure. I see that other have attempted to help the process by increasing the release pressure on the latch. This will be the last Kitchenaid large appliance I purchase.

Kitchenaid DW door spring

The door hinges are spring-loaded. One or both hinges have failed.
Items 2 and 3 at the link below are the parts that are needed.

I am not aware of a service manual posted on the internet.
Hope this helps! Please post back with what you end up doing, OK?
Good Luck!

Door noise

Hello,

Common issue with this dishwasher. Easy fix though!! KitchenAid uses a nylon string that connects the hinges to the springs located along the bottom edges of the dishwasher. I had to pull mine out to perform this service. The nylon string seems to dry out and vibrates as the door opens and closes. All that needs to be done is put some Vaseline or other appropriate lubrication all over the nylon string. Especially where it passes through the roller and stationary guide. That will take care of any squeeking or grinding when opening or closing the door. Be careful as your door will now open just like it did when it was new. Now if I can only figure out how to keep my door from popping open during wash cycles!!!

Door handle will not engage with latch to open door.

yea but the trick is the latch acces is behind console not the front panel, you need to unistall the d/w slightly to remove strike plate holding broken latch closed, door needs to be opened to gain access to console screws
