That will depend on the package, because some laptops when you buy 1 has an option to have microsoft softwares which are preinstalled with a complete or full version or just a trial, you can call gateway regarding this as well so that you can have info and clarifications. Thanks for using fixya!! pls rate as fixya if helpful, have a nice day!!

Office is a software provided by microsoft.
you only get a trial version installed in your system which means you never paid for the Office software
if you need a full version you have to purchase it from microsoft

I just bought this brand spankin' new laptop and it has Vista on it... then the MS Office Home/Student 2007 and that kept asking me for a Prod Key... I tried the one on the laptop.

Hi there!
You should ask your laptop retailer if the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 that is installed in your computer is a full version or just a trial version. Normally, if that is a full version, it should come with an installation disc and the product key should be on the package where the disc is inserted.
Hope this helps.

I want to use Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007 but I can't do anything on it because I need a product key. But I don't have it because it was already installed when I got my laptop. What do I do?

When you purchase laptops/desktops new, they come preloaded with a TRIAL of Office software. The trial period normally is 30 - 90 days. During this time, you can use the software "X" number of times. However, you must PURCHASE the "KEY" to continue to use. Your options:

1. You may have purchased the "KEY" and it sent to you via e-mail.
2. Purchase the "KEY" from Microsoft
3. Purchase DVD version from local retail
4. Download OPENOFFICE = FREE software that reads powerpoint files. The site to OPENOFFICE is:

download.openoffice.org/2.4.3/index.html

5. At times when we purchase laptops/PC's, we already have a licensed copy of Microsoft Office. We install on NEW computer. But there is already a TRIAL copy loaded! Maybe, this is the case and your using the TRIAL copy instead of yours?

Let us know.

I entered the product key located on the back of my windows7 2010 laptop. It keeps telling me it is the wrong key for my microsoft office for home and Student. Can Someone please help me to get my product...

The key on the laptop is for windows 7, not office. When you buy a new laptop now, you get a trial version of office home and student. If you want to continue using that software you would need to purchase a key from a reputable supplier.

I have a new laptop with Windows 7, microsoft office is one of my programs and it wants a product key, do I have to buy this?

The new laptop has a "trial" version of the software installed,
granting you usage for 30 days. After the end of the trial-period,
if you wish to keep using the software, you must purchase a license-key, either at a retail computer-store, or online, via Microsoft's E-commerce web-site.

Ibought a new lap top in December 2009 and every time I try to use the home and student 2007 program it asks me for a product key. I have no idea where to find this Can you help

Hi,

Please let us know whether you purchased the laptop with pre-installed copy of Windows Home and Office 2007 software, i.e; the Windows Home and Office software was installed by the laptop vendor.

Usually, computer vendors install a 60-day trial version of the Windows Home and Office 2007. So, after the trial period is over, you will have to purchase the full version of the software.

Please reply to this post with more details. Thanks for using FixYa.

My 30 day trial of MS Office hasn't yet expired

Hi Paul

The provision of Product-Keys is the sole responsibility of Microsoft. We get many requests from frustrated users of their 'Trial Packages'.
They want you to buy the package now. I like to give other options.

As an alternative, might I suggest Open Office from Sun Micro.
  • It is a full office productivity suite.
  • You can open and modify any file type MS-Office can
  • IT"S Free
  • You can download the package from their site right now!
Either way you choose, best of luck to you.

Lost Microsoft Office 2007 , how do I get it back ?

If you lost the original media, that is not the problem. Installing Office 2007 that you can download from Microsoft's website will allow you to install the software. You just need to know your original installation key to activate it.

Any Office 2007 disc allows you to install a 30 day trial of the software.
