Nikon Coolscan 9000 not recognized by XP computer...

The scanner used to wrok no problem. After disconnecting all cables in order to add a new card reader into the machine, everything works fine EXCEPT the CoolScan 9000. Trying to open this via Nikon Scan 4.0 or through Photoshop gives the message that "No Active Devices Were Found". I uninstalled the software and re-installed it. Same message shows up. Any suggestions?
