I connected my brand new one Danby DPAC 7099 unit, but is not cooling the room. It only goes to 1 degree less than the actual temperature of the room and stays there forever. Is there something I should...

Your question "Should I wait before starting the unit, after bringing it from the store?" may be the answer to the problem. If the unit was turned on it's side or back when you brought it home in your car? Then yes. that is the problem. When AC Units, Dehumidifiers, etc are turned on their side or back, the refrigerant gas and the lubricating oil runs out of the compressor. It should not be operated, unit it's been setting upright for 6 to 8 hours. This allows all the fluids to run back into place.

If the above is the case. Turn the unit Off and unplug it for at least 6 hours. Hopefully, all the fluids will return to where they are supposed to be.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have 2 Superser heaters. The newer one ignites at the 2nd or 3rd push of the plunger. However, the older one is a real pain. Some years ago after a summer of inactivity, it failed to ignite so I took...

The first thing I would do is make sure that ignitor is in the proper placement. Compare it to your other one. You can carefully clean ignitor and pilot assembly. Check to see that you have a good strong spark when you push plunger. If not you probably need to replace the ignitor. One thing you can do is to hold pilot control down like usual and light with a match. You can check but a lot of these units use a spark ignitor like they use on propane grills, about $15.00 in most hardware stores. Hope this helps you. Thanks

The unit works as of right now...but there is a smell of something burning

Quite often, if you smell like a plastic burning smell, one of the capacitors is faulty, and should be checked immediately. Quite often the compressor start capacitor, will get hot and start to melt. Have it checked by qualified technician or electrician, as they are dangerous and can give a fatal shock if not experienced with handling them, even when power is shut off. $20-$30 part, and 1/2hr. labor should take care of it. The cover on roof unit, has to be removed to access the capacitors, so watch for bees, wasps, when you do so. Make sure power is off at breaker panel.

Hi, Yesterday I bought haier 12000 BTU air

To determine the cost of using this air conditioner, you will need to find out what your electric company charges per kw/h. This is the standard unit that electricity is charged for. Next determine the wattage of the air conditioner. This should be found on the unit name plate. If you can not find the wattage by the name plate, the take the voltage and multiply by the amperage, this will give you watts. Next multiply the wattage by 24. (watts per hour x 24 hours) Finally divide this number by 1000. This will give you the total Kw that the unit will use in a 24 hour period. If you multiply this number by the cost per Kw that will give you the operating cost of your unit for one day.
ex. electric company charges .25/Kw The unit uses 1000 watts 1000 x 24 = 24000 watts 24000/1000 = 24 Kw 24 Kw x .25/Kw = $6.00 day
Note: all figures shown above were randomly generated in my head, and have no correlation to your calculations. Hope this helps.

Since you have a knob, I am assuming that this unit has manual controls that are mounted directly below the air conditioner on a ceiling pack. If you smell burned wiring, remove the inside shroud to access the 120VAC connections in the unit. Check these connections for OK, if they look burnt, cut them back and reattach them (be sure to turn the breaker off first). Try the AC again.

If those connections look fine, then remove the upper cover from the unit. Access the capacitors on the side of the unit and check them for ok. If any one of them looks burnt, replace it. These two places are usually the only place that you will get a burned plastic smell.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Brunt smell and sweating

Seems like your blower motor is burning up. Its the motor that blows cool air across the refrigeration coil. If it is a whole house ac unit, probably your main blower motor for the furnace. If you are getting sweat, that means the compressor is compressing the refrigerant, and you should not smell anything from the outdoor unit, only from the furnace. Hope this helps.

Plastic smell

Only time will tell, a lot of times they will give off a slight odor when they are new but should stop pretty quickly. If it still stinks after 6 hours I would say there is a problem, If it is a portable unit take it back, if built in call the supplier.
