Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

We have a Whirlpool gb22dk refrigerator freezer. The bottom freezer keeps meat frozen but will not keep sea food ice cream bread ect frozen. This fridge came with our house which we purchased 2 years ago and is about 4/5 years old. This problem only started a couple of days ago. We normally kept the freezer at about 4/5 on the dial but last night turned it up to max and at noon today more of the sea foods had thawed. The ice cube tray remains frozen. Please help

    There was quite a bit of dust under the fridge but cleaning it out didn't seem to help so we have had to get a repair tech in after all

1st.Check the freezer door gasket for any place it maybe torn or not making a 100% seal when you close the door.That would make temperature drop. 2nd.take off bottom kick plate so you can look under the refrigerator.Using a flashlight make sure there is not alot of lint / dust stuck on the coils .If there is remove it carefully and you will see temperature lower. PLEAS RATE THIS!

Make sure that the food is not packed too tightly, and the cold air can circulate, and that the door seals are tight, to keep the cold air in. Also make sure that you do not have an ice build-up that would block cold air circulation, or that the cool air intake is not blocked, especially by ice build-up. Ice build-up can happen on hotter days when the door is getting opened alot (also interfering with keeping the cold air inside the freezer altogether).
The freezing point for ice cubes is 32 F, while other foods require colder temps - especially those that have fats, like ice cream.
If you verify that the air is moving successfully and the gasket around the door is tight, and if the setting is low but still not sufficient to keep the foods cool, you may need to call for a repair.

You have a defrost condensate drain blockage where all the water from defrost remains inside the freezer compartment and causes the symptons you are having. Freezer does not keep ice cream frozen


You are having a problem with one of the three main components of the the defrost system. Look into rear of your freezer to see if ice and frost is beginning to build up on the rear panel. If yes begin manual defrost by unplugging and remove contents of freeze. Even better send me the model number of your Whirlpool. That is how I tell you were the problem began most likely. You are having either a defrost problem combined with the defrost drain being frozen over. Need to unplug and remove the rear panel in back of freezer to examine exactly what is happening. My ice cream won't stay frozen in my freezer.


Hi: Meat and other frozen foods will be rock solid at 32degrees. Ice cream will be soft it needs 0degrees to be hard. It sounds like your freezer is above 0 degrees. You tried the adjustments. Make sure the coils on the bottom are clean. They will warm a ref if they are dirty. A coil brush from the hardware store or a air compressor (plan on dusting the house when done. Just vaccuuming the front isn't enough. That's an older model but one of the controls affects both the freezer and fresh food. When it's running turn one down; if it turns off the compressor it affects both. The other control is just an air balance, to direct how much air gets to each compartment. I hope this helps, Jeff

My bottom freezer is making ice but not keeping the food frozen


The flow tubes are blocked.You will need to defrost the unit,unplug and pull off as much ice as possible.You can put pans of hot water in the freezer.

Freezer is not working to optimum capability. Meats and frozen foods harden, but ice cream and breads do not. I have the temperature control to almost maximum. Any ideas?


remove bottom kickplate and clean condensor coils, pull away from wall and vaccuum behind and underneath. if the machine cant breath, it cant cool properly
