It prints with text overlapping, so I tried an alignment. However it prints, but then I get a "there's a problem with the printer" and it says to remove tape from cartridges. I reinstalled the driver, checked for anything that could be obstructing the cartridges, but still nothing. The printer was fine a week ago, nothing has happened since then. The alignment that gets printed is attached. Notice the red squares. At times they are yellow. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Lexmark x4270 Alignment Problem
When you say you checked to see if anything is obstructing the cartridge, please also make sure the clear tape/tab on the cartridge head was completely removed before use. If you put another head in, does it work? Sometimes the cartridges are bad, if they have been exposed to extreme temperatures. A fragment of the protection tab would explain the error as well as the printout, as you don't seem to have any yellow at all. Hope this helps.

unplug the power cord from the outlet and wait 3 or 4 minutes.
Plug it back in and choose the alignment program.
a sheet of paper will print out a series of lines and etc.
once finished , the printer cartridge is alligned properly and will print nice and clear.
Hello. That's an alignment problem in the printer. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Clean the nozzles using a damp paper towel. But, if it's possible, try to use new cartridges. Unplug the printer from the power source. Plug it back in after 10-15 seconds. When the printer's ready, re-insert the cartridges. Let it print an alignment page all the way through.
the problem seems to be un-even distribution of ink. try a different and new ink cartridge. Since you are refilling the cartridge, the ink inside of the cartridge is getting magnetized, there by, the ink stick to the drum of the cartridge and don't distribute the ink evenly. shake would clear it. you need to demagnetized the drum.
The printer should have an alignment setting for the print head. Go to start, printers, select the default printer, right click on it and select properties. Look for printer device settings and look for align print head.
If you brought new Lexmark cartridges please change it as it comes with one year warranty but before try to perform a self test, (i.e make a copy) if it works then try printing , if get the error then change the cart.........................
Check to see if any ink is smeared inside the holder where the contact panel is located. Normally gold contacts.
Clean off the contacts with a paper towel or q-tip.
Then try reprinting the alignment page. Then print the test page a few times.
