If that is the case, I don't think it's a good idea. Unless Microsoft thinks there is no need for any body to change the first user name!

Hi,

I managed to change the first user name.

What I did was to replace all the occurrence of the first user name in the registry with the new user name! But it is not a very cool job to do. Unless you are well determined and you are not bothered with all the modify and paste stuff. And I backup all my data before starting. For now all is working just ok.

The first time i restart my system it created a temp. account and i rename the main folder with the new name. I restart the system again and that is it.

Once windows is installed, the 1st user chooses their name, and is stuck with that name, when the name is changed, that will still be the admin name. so this cannot be fixed without wiping windows.

yea your right about MS, but, you can do this. You can create a second account with the same name. and then delete the old one after you move all your files over.

Create and Change Password, Picture and User Name in Windows 7

In Windows 7, the logon screen usually contains a picture that you choose when setting up the computer and a default user name. Since I purchased my computer from Best Buy, the picture was already set and the user name was simply User.
Not very unique! The first thing I did when I got my computer was to change the user name and change my user picture. That is what I’ll explain in this article.
Change User Name in Windows 7 First, click on Start and then Control Panel. Then click on User Accounts and Family Safety.
1.png
On the next screen, click on the User Accounts heading at the very top.
2.png
Finally, click on Change your account name to actually change the user name. If you want to change the user name for a different account, click on Manage another account.
3.png
Now type in the new user name that you desire and click the Change button.
51.png That’s it! Once you click Change, you’ll be back to the previous screen with a preview of the new login screen.
4.png Change User Picture in Windows 7 To change the user account picture, simply click on the Change your account picture link in the second step above.
5.png You can either choose from the default pictures in Windows 7 or you can click the Browse for more pictures link. Once you have chosen the desired picture, click on the Change Picture button.
Change/Create User Password in Windows 7 If you want to create a password for your user account or change the current password, click on the Change Windows password link.
7.png If you don’t already have a password setup for your user account, you can click on the Create a Windows 7 password for your account link, otherwise you can click Change your password.
8.png So those are the most common three tasks when managing user accounts in Windows 7.

Computer prompts for user name and pass word, it was givin to me i dont know user name and pass word

You can try putting in Administrator and leave password field blank and see if it works, otherwise try one of the following:

- see this for XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305
- or this for Vista/Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/What-to-do-if-you-forget-your-Windows-password
- or if anything else didn't work you can use third party software from Hiren's Boot CD to reset your login password http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download.html

  1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Click on the User Accounts and Family Safety link.
  3. Note: If you're viewing the Large icons or Small icons view of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simply click on the User Accounts icon and proceed to Step 4.

  5. In the Make changes to your user account area of the User Accounts window, click theChange your password link.
  6. In the first text box, enter your current password.

  9. In the final text box, you're asked to Type a password hint.
  10. This step is optional but I highly recommend that you use it. If you try logging in to Windows 7 but enter the wrong password, this hint will display, hopefully jogging your memory.
  11. Click on the Change password button to confirm your changes.
  12. You can now close the User Accounts window.
  13. Now that your Windows 7 password has been changed, you must use your new password to log on to Windows 7 from this point forward.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.
