Question about GE GSS20IEP Side by Side Refrigerator

Freezer not working!!!

Hi,

This past weekend I noticed that the Ice Maker was not making ice. I read somewhere that if you don't have a lot of things in the freezer, it may not maintain the temperature as well. I put two containers if water in there last night and this morning they are only cool (the water did not even begin to freeze.). The refridgerator is working fine. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to resolve / diagnose this issue. It would be quite hard to get to the back of the unit because it is flush in a corner against the kitchen counter. Please let me know. Thank you!

Sincerely, Kevin.

Did you know that hot water freezes quicker than cold water you can try this
the reason for this is scientific
the molecules in the hot water are moving faster than colder water thats why hot water freezes faster

that was a little quote i picked up from science magazine

i have read over the fixya site several people have had the same problem with this particular model so i am only going to pass on what has been discused in fixya in hopes that this will help

the thermo controls are malfunctioning
or your fridge is leaking freon from one of its copper lines fix accordingly even with a refrigeration tech

I have a ge refridgerator side by side model gsh25kgmd bb. I bought it in 2002. The issue is, the ice maker. It has stoped working. I notices there was a lot ice build up in the back below the ice...

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking or no water at icemaker or door either one, then the valve at the rear bottom of ref needs replacing
First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also if it is getting drinking water to the door but not to the icemaker (or vice versa) Then you need to replace
the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. It is a double valve and one side is not working
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Freezer is not working. Ice maker is working. Started noticing the past 2 weeks that ice cream is melting. Refrigerator is working but not keeping things really cold. The unit is only 3 years old.

ice mker will soon quit as when ice cream is soft the tempt is rising . look for frost build up in back wall of freezer . if so the heaters have failed ( very common ) . they will have to be replaced . there is a new style that replaces mose G E heaters . and they are much better .. mm

Maytag model MSD2756GE ice maker. Water not getting to ice maker.

Why was there a need to increase the freezer temperature? Are you having temperature problems as well? If so, your ice maker has a built-in thermostat that, unless and until it is satisfied, will not cycle, thereby, making no ice. If temperature seems ok, and the buzzing is only occasional, then that buzzing is most likely the solenoid valve being energized but not passing water. This is a dual solenoid valve (one supplies the ice maker and the other supplies the dispenser) located at the bottom rear of the refrigerator.

Eterna series side by side ice maker doesn't make ice

Hi: . In the warm weather your freezer can warm. I don't mean just frozen. Your freezer has to be at 0 degrees to harvest ice. Ice cream should be rock hard. Set your freezer colder and don't trust cheap thermometers. Also don't do the human thing and check the freezer every 30 minutes to see if ice is made. It will take 24hrs at zero degrees and opening the freezer a lot will not help matters. Hope this helps, Jeff This happens to me every summer. The ice maker will stop or slow.

Frigidaire not dumping the ice

Hi: Dumping the ice is the start of the ice making timer. Before you replace the ice maker... Set the freezer one setting colder. The ice maker wont make ice if the freezer is not at zero degrees F. Just because things are frozen in it dosn't mean it is at zero. This happens a lot in the summertime. After resetting the temp don't open the door every hour to see if it makes ice as you will just dump the cold air out. Listen for the ice to dump, give it 24hrs. I hope this helps, Jeff

Ice maker not making ice

a few things, was the ice maker working before repair?? generally the ice maker need to "cool" before making ice, usually give 24 hrs to start producing ice. next perhaps the tech shut off water supply never turned back on??? bottom freezer, perhaps he had to remove the ice maker to remove the back wall of freezer and never reconnected wire harness to the back wall.

Freezer not working - GSS20IGPA WW

All cooling starts in the freezer section where the evaporator is. Too much stuff in the freezer can inhibit the necessary airflow around the evaporator and cause it to freeze. Usually, the next defrost cycle will thaw it, but it can keep the cool from coming out. There are so many things that can cause the lack of cooling, but most often, it is NOT the compressor. e.g. - if there's water pooling on the inside at the bottom, you have a bad door seal. If no real cool ever happens and you don't hear the hum of the compressor often, you defrost timer is bad.
