Question about Gateway FPD1760 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Screen wiggly Since Saturday the screen has become very unstable. My friend suggests it's about to break, but is there anything else that could be causing this to happen? We're in a pretty severe heat wave right now and I 'm wondering if they heat could have anything to do with why the screen is so jumpy.

Hmm, that stinks. It is a shimmy all the way around and it seems to get worse with the heat oddly enough or the longer it is on. It's probably more likely the longer it's on as you said the heat doesn't bother it. The monitor is only about a year and a half old. I hope it's still under warranty. Thanks for your help!

I checked the connections on my power strip, also found out how to check the refresh rate and changed it from 60 to 75. Am hoping this will fix my problem. I will try this for a day or two and see what happens. Thank you for your help. If I need further consultation I will write again.

Are you using the digital (DVI) input?

Ambient temperature, in most cases, will not affect the performance of your monitor. Usually a color distortion or what looks like an interference (fuzziness or fuzzy lines) is caused by a loose connection or bad cable. If you get like a shimmy all around the edges or the whole screen wiggles but otherwise looks normal, especially if it's intermittent, I will bet your monitor needs replacing soon.

Screen unstable on my versapro

Connect a spare monitor to the video output, if the same! the Video Graphics Card is defective, normally built into the motherboard. But if you get a stable image, it indicates a bad LCD display, however! in rare cases the video cable becomes loose and needs to be re-inserted.

Screen give hissing sound when start up pc and flickers like an electrical storm

If, this is not an LCD screen and one of the old CRT monitors this means it is leaking it's vacuum and can become unstable and ultimately dangerous. You should replace it.

If, this is an LCD monitor then you have an electrical short either on the inverter or the screen, you should take extreme care and take it to have it serviced as any electrical malfunctions can ultimately become dangerous.

Vaio vgn cs 230j it works ok but after one or two hours the screen becomes black i can hardly see anything

Suggest you connect an external vga monitor to see if that screen also becomes black. If it does, then the problem is not likely to be the notebook's screen itself but something that is driving it. So it may be a driver problem or possibly a Vista screen saver effect. So for starters, you could try disabling the screen saver.

Windows vista black edition bootmgr compressed

Windows Black is a pirated version of Windows XP dressed up to look like Vista. Apart from being illegal software I have found that most versions of Black are highly unstable. If you want Vista then I recommend you buy a proper copy. If you're looking for free then I suggest you look at one of the many flavors of Linux. Most Linux distros(versions) have incredible graphical interfaces and are becoming almost more user friendly than Windows.

Help my calculator!!

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on at all. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

Try removing signal cable and refitting at both ends.
Signal cable also could be faulty.
