Bad Battery on EMachine M622-UK8X?

I have an EMachine M622-UK8X that’s a few years old. Now when I plug it in to an AC outlet the battery light flashes a few times, then goes out. If I try turning it on with no AC connection, no lights at all. I don’t want to spend the money on a battery if it’s a bad AC adapter or something else. Is there any way to verify my battery needs replacing?

-   my machine does the same thing and sometimes it wont turn off either I have to hold down the button for quite a while before it goes off its also freezing too any help appreciated for a non technical person.-   venice40

Pull the battery and try powering on the laptop. If it comes up without any problems, it is probably time to invest in a new battery if you want to continue using it as a laptop.
