Question about Computers & Internet

We purchased a surge bar about 4 years ago to protect the computer. The model number is SP8200T2 but last night it did NOT protect the computer, yet the surge bar still seems to be working. Your phone number on the warranty is no longer valid. Can you please reply or advise your new phone number. Thank you, Derek Coombes I need a phone Number.

I could not find mfr on web, lots of places selling, but no hint of mfr. if you want reliable protection, get one from TripLite, APC or Belkin, most of the better brands will pay for your computer if surge destroys it.

How do I reset the control panel? Other ideas?

Hello. If your unit is running continuously, the timer/control board is defective and needs to be replaced. I need the make/model number to help you accurately. If you have the mechanical timer(round knob that turns), it's not advancing(no repair possible). If the unit has an electronic control, the program quite possibly is corrupted--or a relay is stuck causing the problem. Have you had a power outage recently--3-4 weeks ago? These are notorious for damaging the control boards from the current surge when power is restored. I hope I helped you--definitely give me the model number, thanks!

My Acer Aspire M1201 won't turn on.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.

It is probably a bad battery. They usually don't last much longer than 2-3 years. You could try replacing the battery, but I would suggest just replacing the whole UPS with a new model.

Sometime this type of equipment can break down when they are subjected to mains voltage spikes.
To prevent mains spikes from damaging your equipment, I suggest you get a surge protection powerboard and connect all your computer equipment to this surge protection powerboard.

Although I know it is not recommended, I have no choice but to plug my AC into a surge protected power bar/extension. I have done so for the last 2 summers, no problem. I take out my AC to install, last...

The best thing I can tell you is, that Danby does not recommend it. Even an extension cord is not recommended, unless it is a 14 gauge and no longer that 6 feet.

Several questioners in the past, have used a surge protect power bars and ended up frying the electronics of their AC units.

But, in the end, it's up to you.

Only displays bars when you power up`

No surge protector is going to stop a lightning strike. It's just way too powerful.
1. Make sure you've unplugged, waited 10 seconds, plugged it back in. That's more than the on/off button does.
2. If your PC will communicate with the printer at all, Lexmark has a program that will reset it. It's located here: http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/knowledgebase.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:520:0:0&docid=ENUS25837

Good luck!

UPS issues with bad power

First, most of the UPS sensitivity can be adjusted. Setting a higher sensitivity will make the UPS compensable much faster if the current goes to high to too low thus always providing a good power quality to the equipments. For example, on a BackUPS RS the low level can be configured from 94V to 104V and the high level from 126V to 136V. An entry-level UPS such as the APC BackUPS ES will switch to battery mode as soon as the power goes out of the sensitivity range. On the other hand, a high-end UPS for workstation like the APC BackUPS RS has a feature called Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) that compensate at some extent without requiring the battery; this makes the battery last longer before needing to be replaced.

Second, most of the UPS have "Battery Protected" and "Surge only" outlets. Make sure that the computers are connected to the "Battery Protected". The "Surge only" outlets will only protect from parasites or surges like a thunder storm. They should be used for less important stuff like a desk lamp or devices with high demand peek such as a laser printer.

Third, the use of a power bar connected to the "Battery Protected" side should not have any impact as long as it is not overloading the UPS. Personnaly, I have a power bar connected to both my UPS.
