Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook
I bought this HP Pavilion zd8000 and I have had problems since day one...first notebook was not switching off completely..even today it always hangs...I asked "HP support" the question and I was told, backup all your info, you are going to have a crash soon...but of course no solution was provided...Now, I have 8 vertical lines [and counting] on the monitor starting from the left side...I reluctantly, went to HP active chat again and I was told "it appears like a LCD issue and changing the screen may resolve it"... do you think we need to hear "it may resolve"... At the HP Active chat no one seems to take responsibility and are keen to move on to the next customer with vertical lines problem...
In answer to your question. It may be a screen problem. as the screen has a Matrix of vertical and horizontal line configuration.
I,d suggest trying the laptop/computer on an external monitor or screen. if it works fine on an external. then it could be assumed that the TFT Panel or invertor has a fault.
if the picture/display still has vertical lines on an external monitor, then the fault may lie, with the Mainboard.
Process of elimination, before spending any Money :)

I agree with Mike. Verticle lines or horizontal lines - as long as they're not like ... filling up half the screen with lines - indicates a bad screen. The initial problem of not shutting down properly could be a OS-related problem - I'd restore the OS installation first and if I'd done that and its still showing the same end results, then it's a bad main board.
