Storm knocked power out to house for 3 hrs. When back on, new (4 mos old) fridge power, refrig, freezer and icemaker all working. Water dispenser not. Is there a reset button that I've missed? Pressed the one on the door. Nothing. What is causing the problem?

SOURCE: whirlpool refrigerator ice dispenser no longer workds

Ok, I show parts that are available for that model, sounds like the control board is defective for your dispenser, or possibly the Ice maker control board. It also could be a break in the wiring or the control itself. Below is a break down for those parts, wiring and the control behind the push to dispense ice or water. Hope it is not that control because some places don't provide that part. Now if it's a connection problem that we can find, I will do mu best to help you solve this.Could you insure the model number is correct as this is very important? appliancepartsse@yahoo.com

SOURCE: Smell & bad taste of water from refrigerator dispenser

depending on the brand and the style, locate the filter and change it out. Please note that you must empty out the remaining water from the refrigerator cause if you don't, when you change out the filter you might get the same taste for a while until all the remaining water is replaced by freash water.

SOURCE: Whirlpool refrigerator water dispenser won't stop

Hi. This will usually be the fault of the water inlet valve. The solenoid based valve may have debris building up, thus, causing the valve not to close properly, after usage. Kindly, follow the procedure below to confirm the damage, replace the valve, if needed.

The water inlet valve is located behind your refrigerator. Find the water supply line coming into the valve and turn it off at the source (typically under the sink). Disconnect the supply line. Remove the screws that secure the inlet valve in place.

The water inlet valve is connected by two wires. Label the wire placement on the water inlet valve before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected to the terminals with slip on connectors

Firmly pull the connectors off of the terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.

Inspect the filter screen where the supply line connects. Remove any debris or deposits that may have built up using a toothbrush, or warm running water. If you cannot clear the clog, it will be necessary to replace the valve (the filter is not removable on most inlet valves).

Test the water inlet valve for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X100 (if available, otherwise use the nearest ohm setting). Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading of 200 to 500 ohms. Close inspection of the inlet valve and especially the coil may reveal the exact ohm resistance rating to test for. If the water inlet valve does not pass this test, it should be replaced.

SOURCE: water does not dispense thru my whirlpool

Hello,

Take off the back panel in the freezer. 1/4" screws. Use a nut driver or ratchet and socket with an extension.
2. Behind the frost is the evaporator and the defrost heaters. One heater in the middle and one at the bottom. They are glass tubes. If you can see the bottom heater that is great. If not use a hair dryer and defrost only the very bottom to expose the lower heater only.
3. Now in the refrigerator section at the top where the controls are, take off the long plastic piece to expose the timer. The timer should be on the right hand side and have a little circle that is slotted. Get a flat screwdriver and turn that timer slowly clockwise just until it clicks and the refrigerator turns off. This will put it into defrost.
4. Now look at that heater that you exposed and see if it glows and gets hot. If it does, then the timer is bad.
5. If the heater doesn't come on then go ahead and defrost the rest of the evaporator with the hair dryer. This will take a little while. Don't poke at the evaporator!!!
6. Once totally defrosted look at both heaters. They should look like clear glass and see a silver coil running thru them. If they look discolored at all then the heaters are bad. The heaters come as a complete assembly with the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator.
7. If the heaters look ok the only way to know for sure if they are bad is to check continuity with a meter on the plug at the end of their wiring harness. If you can check that then you can splice in a new defrost thermostat to solve the problem. However the best thing to do is replace the heaters and defrost thermostat . It is easy to install.
Follow these steps and this will solve your problem.

Hope this helpout......

Whirlpool side by side with a broken water dispenser

you may have a sticking water lever or a bad water valve.
the lever can be changed from the front and you should know if it sticks.
the water valve can be replaced from the rear of your unit. it is the plastic part where the water line hooks up to the unit.

-whirlpool refrigerator water dispenser

this may still be under woranty check with sears / the padal makes contact with a micro swich and the switch enerjizes the water solinoid at the water line inlet . this solinoid may be sticking open as well. if you unplug the fridge and the water still runs its likely the water valve. if the water shuts off when you unplug the fridge it'll be the micro switch.. good luck
