Question about Brother HL-2030 Laser Printer
Its nearly what the last post states,
I have had brother help desk on the phone recently due to this problem. If you get a toner cartridge that has no numbers on it, ( brother orginal parts have huge numbers stamped on the case) then the cartridge needs resetting, this is done by simply pushing the white lever on left handside about 40 degrees forwards, its stiff so give it a proper hard shove. No srews etc to undo.
Hey presto your light will go out.

If you pull the toner out and do the following
Unscrew the 2 screws on the left side of the toner
The white cog that is visable needs reseting
When open, push the cog anti clockwise
Screw back up
and light should dispear

SOURCE: I have a brother HL
Two things I could suggest you check. First, make sure you have removed all packing from the drum and toner. Sometimes there is a plastic strip on the toner that has to be removed before installation. Also, make sure you are using a Brother brand toner. Some generic brands do not replace the chip in the cartridge and they will not work,

Brother printers are known for this problem. They tell you that toner is empty based on sensors and not based on actual toner left. A way around this is to take out the toner and look on the sides of it. There should be a hole on each side (one that has clear plastic over it). These holes are used for the sensors. Take some electrical tape (or any dark tape) and tape over those holes. Once they are tapped over the sensors think there is toner. Put the toner back in and enjoy.
Hope this helps!!!
