Question about Computers & Internet

Modems, Have a Davis VP2 Weather Station/6555 data logger combo, with a RJ45 connector to the Ethernet hook-up. I wish to use the cellular system to access wireless internet/broadband and use either the Davis-Link web site, or construct our own web-site so that all Club members can view before traveling to our model R/C airplane flying site! My major problem is how to choose a suitable Wireless internet Cellular system Modem! I'm retired and it's certainly not my field of expertise anyway! and when you search the internet there's a million and 1 out there to choose from, nobody asks 'what do you want to use it for?' Any help would be a boon. Many thanks. regards Dave Calveley. UK.

Micromaster, had thought along those lines, like a dongle into a lap-top, but the system needs to run 24/7/365, and these types of technologies would appear to be on the light side, especially from the battery point of view and the fact that there is no mains power avaialable.Have been looking at gear like the light industrial modems!

Missing link between DSL Cable and D-Link Systems HD Media Router 1000 (DIR-657)

What is the Time Warner modem? Make, Model? If you have a Ethernet port RJ45 connect the wireless device via a ethernet cable. You may need a splitter if there is only one Ethernet RJ45 port. Example: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-RJ45-Splitter-Cable-Adapter/dp/B00009XSZE

I do not know what type of cable and hoe to hook to pc

Most modern computers have a Network Interface Card (NIC) that used an industry standard RJ45 network jack (8 wire connection similar to a telephone RJ11 connector)
Most people now have broadband service (Cable Modem or DSL Modem) that has RJ45 connections. you also may have a Router between the computer and the Modem to share that internet connection with other computers. The router will also have RJ45 connections. Routers can also be wireless, and you can connect via 802.11 A/B/G/N wireless connection if your computer has an 802.11 standard wireless card.
So, once you detail the brand and model computer and the type fo network conenction/equipment you have, I can give more detailed answers.

Need to know how to hook to cable sys

Not quite sure what your problem is......BUT
If you want to know how to set up your network equipment.
You should have a cable coming into your house with your internet/tv services. This has a "F" type screw connector on the end.
This screws into the back of your Internet providers "MODEM".
You connect the MODEM to your ROUTER with an ETHERNET cable (this has RJ45 plugs on). It plugs into the WAN socket on the router.
When first setting up the router, connect the router to the pc with an ethernet cable, log into the router via your browser. change the settings as needed, and set the security to WGA2 if possible.
Create a security password, save your settings, unplug the ethernet cable from your pc/laptop and try and connect via WIFI.
Hope this helped a little

Connect your Earthlink Modem's RJ45 connector to your router's RJ45 WAN connector. The router should then provide wireless internet to other computers via their wireless cards.

How do i hook the router up

The router has several connections on the back, there's the Power (goes to AC Adapter), an Input RJ45 that is connected by RJ45 cable to the Cable/DSL modem, and several other connectors that can be connected to different computer Network Inputs. That's about it.

Lacking correct cable

Simply an RJ45 cable connector. Routers are broadband and a dialup modem will not work. You need an ethernet card. They are cheap and easy to get. Steve
