Question about Philips GoGear SA178 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Gogear sa178 i have windows vista, which is not supported by my device... although i had no problems with putting music on it and using it until i tried to upgrade the firmware. I called the company and the tech guy told me to format it, now there is nothing at all on my device, is there a way to manually re-install the firmware, and if so where can i find it. i have the firmware upgrade program on my computer, but like i said, since its not for vista when it starts to install the update it loses the connection with the device and says update failed. please help!!! my wife uses this device religiously and i can't afford another at this time.....

This player is toast. You can try writing to the Philips software guy in Hong Kong - he may not even speak English for all I know. The address should be in the front of the manual. Even if he does send you the code, you will have to be a technological genius to be able to use it. I don't know why the Philips guy would tell you to format - the firmware upgrade does not have enough of the core software in it to repair the player. This player never has been compatible with Vista, will never be compatible with vista, and you will have to get it replaced - find out if you are still in warranty - I doubt it, b/c of the age of the player. I know you don't like my answer, but it is the only honest answer.

I want to download philips gogear software for pc

Hello.
Welcome To Fixya DIY Community^^
Its my pleasure to help You solving this Problem.

Its obvious that after the installation of a new Windows XP version in your computer, The GoGear Won't operate as usual Because it's missing drivers and the Music downloading utility in the computer Interface.
  • Now you should install the Drivers To Solve this Problem.
You can Download Drivers and utilities from the link below:
Aditional Support:

--ask me if you need any further info. i am always available.^^

*do not use te software upgrade utility, install only the necessary drivers for your MP3 Player.
the upgrade utility is useful when the firmware of Your MP3 player is corrupted or defective.

Cant put tracks on gogear as musicmatch not compatable with vista help

There is a new version of the software for this device on the Philips website - www.usasupport.philips.com - let me know if this works for you - just added within past week.

If it fails to resolve the issue, reply to me - I have a few other ideas.

I'm not sure about the Memory Format Error, but you are going to need the software to not only recharge the player, but put music on it as well. To turn it on you have to hold down the play button until you see a little "Philips" logo pop up on it. I looked into downloading the upgrade to see if it could recharge that way, but it seems to be only what it says it is; an upgrade. I suggest you ask your husband's friend for the software disk.

Will not play songs

There could be several things going on:
1)Your music service subscription could have been cancelled

2)The device itself is not faulty. This is Microsoft's fault, not Philips'. Some of the songs may have Digital Rights Management (DRM) encoding that the SA178 will not support. You can right click on the trouble music file, select "Properties," and select the License or Digital Right tab - look for the msg: This file is not copyright protected. Find out if the songs that CAN'T be transferred have this message. If so, then click on acquire digital rights (or some variant of that phrase). If the files tha CAN'T be transferred DO have Digital rights protection, then you must save the files in a different format that is stripped of DRM encryption.

Otherwise:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
