I would first goto start then control panel then add remove programs. If you don't see add remove on the left there will say switch to classic view then a lot of icons will appear. Then click add remove programs find them and remove them (providing you have the installation disk or high speed internet access). Then restart your computer and reinstall the programs. Pay close attention to each window while you go through the install process. One of the windows will ask you if you want a desktop icon. Check that box and you should be good to go. After doing this goto hp updates and download the critical update: Follow these steps exactly to download the HP Director update from the HP Web Site. Some of the following steps might require you to navigate away from this Web page. Consider bookmarking or printing this page for reference. If you prefer to install the update without downloading anything, skip to the next method.

  1. Click here to go to the HP Software Download Page .
  2. In the Enter a product number text box, type your product model (for example, HP Officejet 7115), and then click Submit (TO SCAN USING HP - c01425574.gif ) or press Enter . NOTE: If you are not sure what your product model is, look on the product itself. The model number is usually somewhere on the top or front of the product.
  3. Under Product search results , click your product model.
  4. Click Windows XP under Select your operating system .
  5. Under Update , click Critical update to resolve an issue with HP Director after installing Internet Explorer 7 . Figure 2: Example of critical update option on the HP Software Download page NOTE: This update may or may not be available for your product. If it is not available, try the next method.
  6. Thoroughly review the information on the critical update page, and then follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update. When the update finishes installing, HP Director functions normally. Here is the website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00802504&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=77375

HP PSC 1215, Director has gone missing, can't scan

I suggest removing all the drivers and re-install them could be due to a ms update that caused the issue normally due to service pack upgrades if you don't have the drivers you can download it from this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-19447-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=za&lang=en&os=228&product=412187

How do i use my scanner

If you have loaded the software for the printer/scanner.
Go to your HP director Icon and start this program.
you should see your Scanner / printer listed under Select device.

You can place a document/picture in the document feeder on top.
OR you can place the document / picture directly on the glass.
(Lift the hinged lid to reveal the scanner glass)
Don't worry the document feeder uses a different scan wand.
Now document / picture in place select the Scan document or Scan picture icon from the HP director. Depending on which type of document you have placed in / on the scanner.

Scanner should warm up then scan presenting you with a preview image. From here you can decide what and where to go.

You are not limited to just the HP director.
Other applications can use the twain source to activate your scanner software. This will transfer the scan to your application.
Irfanview is a prime example. Image viewer that will let you "Acquire" and image from you scanner. Be sure to select the twain source.

Good luck!

1. Click the Start ( ) icon.
2. Click All Programs .
3. Click Windows Photo Gallery .
4. Click File and then click Import From Scanner or Camera .
5. Click Import .
6. Click Scan .
