Try the Manual - In addition to the Get you started Handbook a more comprehensive manual is usually on the software disk in PDF format.

The hand is just a warning to let you know not to take the picture because your flash is disabled. If you don't need the flash then don't worry about it. To get rid of it, look for the lighting bolt symbol and press that button. That is the flash button and you can set it there.
