What does 192,168,1,254 mean?

Hello,

Your server may be In Active mode, the FTP client chooses the port number that it will use to transfer data on and tells the server which client-side port to send the data to. It issues the PORT command to let the server know what IP address and Port number it will be listening on to receive the data from the server.
PORT 192,168,1,254,4,15 The server then initiates the data transfer to the client, sending the data to the port number that it was told to by the client. Since the Server has initiated the connection, a stateful firewall will not allow the data to be sent back though. (No client has created the connection and so no respective connection exists.)

Hope this helps.

Differences between 2003 server and 2008 server

The main difference between 2003 and 2008 is Virtualization, management.

2008 has more inbuild components and updated third party drivers.

Note: Windows server 2008 45 time fast compare to win 2003.

In Windows Server 2008, Microsoft is introducing new features and technologies, some of which were not available in Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), that will help to reduce the power consumption of server and client operating systems, minimize environmental byproducts, and increase server efficiency.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 has been designed with energy efficiency in mind, to provide customers with ready and convenient access to a number of new power-saving features. It includes updated support for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor power management (PPM) features, including support for processor performance states (P-states) and processor idle sleep states on multiprocessor systems. These features simplify power management in Windows Server 2008 (WS08) and can be managed easily across servers and clients using Group Policies.
Windows Server 2008 introduces Hyper-V (V for Virtualization) but only on 64bit versions. More and more companies are seeing this as a way of reducing hardware costs by running several 'virtual' servers on one physical machine. If you like this exciting technology, make sure that you buy an edition of Windows Server 2008 that includes Hyper-V, then launch the Server Manger, add Roles.

Windows Server 2008, formerly codenamed Longhorn, is no leas than 45 times faster than its predecessor, Windows Server 2003, in terms of network transfer speeds. Now whatever the perspective is on Microsoft's last 32-bit server operating system, the fact of the matter is that faster transfer speeds for of up to 45 times is quite an evolution compared to Windows Server 2003. Back in June 2007, Microsoft commissioned a study to the Tolly Group focused on the networking performances of its latest Windows client and server operating system, which ended up as the "Enhanced Network Performance with Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008" whitepaper. The paper pointed to the fact that both Vista and Windows Server 2008 managed to offer "Dramatic network performance benefits".

Install an operating system (Windows Server 2008) on a used HP

Hi, Have you checked the BIOS? Check the Backup ROM option (change to Backup ROM)
If you haven't change the Boot Order: Go into RSBU and change the Order.
Note: If you have Scsi you do not need to do any additional things rather than this. If your product has a Smart Array Controller, during the POST, press F8 during the Smart Array controller ID to access the configuration utility, delete and re-create the disk array to wipe out whatever might be on the disks.
Feel free to contact again. Let me know what happened.
Thanks for contacting Fixya! (Please rate the answer as well)

How to find the server name

I will assume "server" is a domain controller running a dhcp server.

you need to type two commands.

command 1: ipconfig

This will tell you the ip address of the server (gateway)

command 2: ping -a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ip address of the server/gateway)

adding -a to ping resolves the ip address back to the hostname.

Hope this helps!

HP DL380 G4 Video resolution

I'm afraid that the server video cards on these are pretty poor, the only way to improve this is to add a PCI video card (I added a cheap MX440 to a server I run to get around this). If your PCI slots are all filled up then I'm afraid there's really nothing you can do.

You could TRY to decrease the color bit depth, and see if that helps. Often the video drivers don't support detecting when a higher resolution is possible due to a lower bit depth, or the cards don't actually use less storage for them. (the problem is a lack of RAM on the card to hold a full screen full of pixels at a higher resolution.)

My Dell powerEdge 1600SC Server Fail.....

Sounds like you're running Windows Server 2003 and want to run a backup utility.

Fortunately, this OS ships with a built-in backup utility called we call "ntbackup."

You can launch this program from Start -> Run, or you can find it in Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup.

Installing Image on Linux server through network

If you're using any any flavor of redhat (RHEL, CentOS, Fedora), this can be easily done using kickstart. It's a preconfiguration utility to allow a user to simply type a single one line command after booting from a cd, and completely install a whole server remotely. Comment back with your linux distro, and maybe I can give more specific details.

Server doesnt boot

First create a floppy disk with your RAID driver for W2K3 Server. Next boot the server with the W2K3 Server CD, and hit F6 when prompted, and S to add the specific driver for your RAID and using the floppy to get the driver installed.

Next boot to the recovery console of W2K3 Server. If it finds your hard disk, it will even ask for your Administrator's Password to continue. If this works, then you are probably home free.

Get to the command line of the W2K3 Server Repair console and perform some directory searches to see if the data is there and intact. You can also perform a CHKDSK from that console.

Once you have made sure your data is there and intact, type these two commands: FIXMBR and FIXBOOT

This should solve the problem and when you EXIT out of the console, it should reboot. Remove the CD and it "should" re-boot from the hard disk.

If you still have problems, let me know with how far you got with the steps above. I have another solution but need to know your RAID controller's model (ServeRAID 5i, 6i, etc).
