Screen goes blank after initial Logo. The laptop is still booting up (you can tell that stuff is still going on) but the screen is blank and will remain blank until I hold down the power button to turn it off. I'm running Windows XP (which was recently reinstalled after a hard drive failure) on my Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook. This problem occured once before the hard drive failure and the next time I booted up I had no problem.

Ok my nx7000 did the same thing before it started showing me many different error messages like "non-system disk" or other things at start up, especially if I moved the laptop while it was on. Sometimes it would eventually boot windows but my sound and video became very glitchy. I took it to a shop and they tested the hard-disk and the motherboard and found no problems, but told me to flash the bios and reinstall windows.

I did this but the sound is still kinda glitchy... I'm not too sure if they gave me an accurate diagnostic of the problem because my notebook isn't running nearly as well as it did a few months ago, even after a clean install.

    Any ideas?

This could mean a number of problems but firstly enter you bios setup during startup check the boot priority order also while you are in this menu check whether the system identifies your harddrive if it does then maybe there is a problem with your operating system or partition. change the boot order to cd-rom first. then save changes and restart with the windows (if you are using windows) setup disk in your cd/dvd drive formatt you harddrive (using the long and not the quick formatt) then install a fresh copy of your operating system. if it is indeed the above mentioned problem causing your system halt then this should fix it. if this does not work then let me know what happens because you might be dealing with other hardware problems.

Enter BOS setup
F1 or F10 Enter Setup at the red Compaq logo or blue HP logo
Boot menu Below is a summary of what is contained on the Boot tab of the BIOS Setup:
  • The order for the bottom process; for example: Removable devices, CD ROM, and hard drive.
  • Boot-time Diagnostic screen

strongly urge to update bios too when possible.

Have a gateway Mt3708 it started turning off on its own now I have no screen. I had gotten message reading as follows: YUKON Pxe V4.17.8.1 (alpa) (20060116) (C) copyright 2003-2006 Marvell (R) all rights...

when the logo comes on, press the "tab" key. It should turn the logo off and show you what the computer is doing. This may help:

THIS IS FOR HP AND COMPAQ USERS (it might help others as well)
i had the same problem with my compaq preasrio v6000.
ALL U HAVE TO DO IS
1- START UP UP UR COMPUTER AND PRESS F10
2-GO TO DIAGNOSTICS
3-RUN A HARD DISK TEST
IF IT PASSES THEN YOU JUST NEED TO RE-INSTALL TO YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM
IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR HARD DISK.

Or try this:
Go into the BIOS.. Go into the BOOT options.. and hit Shift+1 to disable the Realtek boot option.. pop in the disk you want to boot from.. and make sure you set your boot options to CD-Rom and then HDD.. and just wait.. be patient.. and the blue screen (for booting) will show up! :)

I have a compaq presario x1000 that wont let me get past the logo. It was working fine one day, but then I shut it down. The next morning I booted it up it the computer never went past the Compaq logo.

It is likely that the hard drive is bad or a memory issue. I would start by removing the hard drive and see if it goes past the compaq screen. If it does then you know what is wrong. If not message me and will walk you through the next step

My compaq armada 3500 wont boot up or only shows the welcome compaq logo

I think that has to do with the BIOS if it cant boot compeletly. Try pressing the key indicated to enter into SETUP if you cant just try and look for a jumper on the motherboard that is written CMOS it may be a button or something.
