Have had similiar problems after pulling my hair out replaced all leads
One bad/faulty lead can cause a computer with lots of problems
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
When I bought the hard drive it didn't come with the cd or cords. Do I have to install any kind of driver on the computer first before I can use the new hard drive ?????
no just plug it in and away you go replace all leads that are attached from your motherboard to your hard drive i think it will be the IDE lead which has 40 pins
but also test the leads that attach to your cd/dvd
Ok. Since my old hard drive was an ATA, I had to buy one of those adapters that plugs into the 40 pin connector on the motherboard.Could this cause a problem when the comuter tries to read the new hard drive. And when I go to my F2 setup utility, under boot sequence the hard disk drive is not installed. Even the drive configuration both the primary, master and secondary slave drives are unknown devices. The only one that is availible is the Secondary master drive - CD ROM. Is there a certain order that the configuration is supposed to be setup ?????
do you mean a sata hard drive i purchased a sata hard drive to fit my elite group motherboard IDE hard drive but had to get an adapter to reduce 40 pin to 8 pin sata and my computer found the drive i think it is a faulty lead a computer has to have a complete circuit to run or you can go into control panel ,administrive tools ,computer management, device manager, disk drives if you see disk drives expand( )right click you can update driver, scan for hardware changes or click properties to update driver, troubleshoot, roll back driver or select disk managenent and see if you can see your drive

it will not be able to find a hard drive because the lead is faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty

I can't access windows on my computer. All it would let me do is F1 to reboot or F2 for utility setup. And when I press F1 to reboot it does nothing.
