Question about Transcend Hard Drives

1 Answer

Transcend external hard drive not working.

I recently purchased the 320 GB Transcend StoreJet 25 mobile. It worked fine the first time I plugged it into the front USB port of my desktop. After that the desktop does not even recognise the HD when plugged in.(Tried with all available front and back USB ports on the desktop). However the USB ports work fine with various peripherals and pen drives. Also the Transcend drive works fine with other desktops/laptops.

Does this happen when you are using it on other computers? Because this Hard Drive does not have external power supply there is a chance that it cuts out from insufficient power. Some of 2.5" external Hard Drives have double USB plug - one for power supply from computer and data transfer and another for additional power supply.

The chances are that the portable drive is drawing more current fom the USB port then the port can supply. The current limitations on the USB ports are controlled electronically and if anything is connectedthat attempts to draw more power then the port can safely supply, the port is shut down.
You may have to use a USB power injector which you plug into the laptop and then plug the drive into that.

My Transcend StoreJet 320 GB USB 20 Hard Drive is having a problem When i connected the drive to my laptop it got detected for sometime and then disconnected automatically

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.
