Fixing the Zenith 50" plasma

Is it recomended to fix the circuit board problem yourself?
If I can buy the new boards from Ebay and do it myself I would save some money since I got screwed on the TV.
Can the problem be taken care of by myself.

Please be aware that there could be dangerous voltages levels stored in this unit even if it is off and unplugged. Be careful.

The problem is probably a shorted Z Sustain board located on the right side of the TV when viewed from the rear. The board sells for about $220.00. The pop sound comes from the speakers because the audio circuit is not properly muted before power down.

My zenith plasma tv popped real loudlike a car backfiring and then the tv picture went black. power on green light wil turn on but it automatically cuts itself back off to the red light

There's an over current fault in the power supply or the Y-sustain convergence board. The loud pop was either a capacitor or pico-fuse breaking from excessive current overload. Sounds like 2 or 3 mosfets have shorted at the gate ends. Plasma TV's always have this problem because they generate too much heat and the components cant take the load conditions. Make your next TV an LCD...

To fix this problem have your local repair shop do it for you.....

any questions please ask.....

Video/Power Problems when Powering up Zenith Z50PX2D 50" Plasma.

Dear friend .believe or not your problem can only be on one of your SUS boards but you have to change both boards. it is cheaper to buy one but after three weeks your set will be dead again. ITS BETTER TO BUY BOTH BOARDS if i know where from then maybe i can tell you where to find the parts. CHANGING CAPS IS THE RIGHT WAY TO START but what if some transistors is also blown wich means you have to start changing more components and by the time you finish changing all the components you"ll see that you will spend more money of what the 2 boards will cost you[SO MY FRIEND BE WISE AND BUY THE BOARDS ITS CHEAPER THAT WAY [REPAIR MAN KW ]

Heard a "pop" then went dead.

Sorry to say - it sounds like the 'pop of death'. The 50" Zenith plasma is very common for having a power failure issue. The problem resides in the Y-Sustain board in most cases. The Toshiba 50HP66 and Vizio P50HDM (as well as LG and HP 50" Plasmas) also have the same issue as they all use the same PDP Panel (plasma panel). The parts are manufactured by LG/Zenith Corporation. Since your Zenith is the model i'm thinking of (Z50PX2D), then the board you would need is the following: 761-hp-hp-pl5060n.htm

The above site is the ONLY place that I have ever found selling this hard to find part and the price is reasonable. If they are out of stock on that exact link, just search for 6870QYC004C on their site and you might find one that is in stock.

NOTE: Before making any purchases, please check the part and make sure it is what your TV needs. I am simply making recommendations and trying to point you to the right direction.

Sound suddenly went out on Zenith TV Picture and everything else appears to be working fine

All of these Zenith's are modular in design. I'm sure you have a problem with the sound module. A replacement should be relatively easy to find at a local Zenith Dealership at a nominal fee. If you are handy, you can change it yourself or if not, bring it in for repair. The set is definately worth repair.

There are no lamps in a Plasma display. The fault can be anything from the power supply to the drive processor. On some occasions I have seen the display itself go defective.

I would not suggest buying boards to service the set yourself. You can end up guessing at boards that are not defective, and when installing a new board it blows again, because there are other faults that were the cause of the failure in the first place.

The service rep will test the set using factory diagnistics and board substitution. When he finds the defective boards, he will install and adjust the new boards as necessary. I found that when the power supply is defective, there are usualy other faults in these sets.

If your set is out of warranty, you may find it very expensive to have it serviced.

Green light blinking- no picture

This just happened to my Z50 yesterday...10 days after it came back from the repair shop! The first repair was for the "popping" problem where the tv makes a loud pop and the screen goes black. This took 6 weeks to get fixed. For this new problem the repair center is getting hold of LG to find out what to do. I am also calling them because I see this is a major problem that people have been experiencing out of warranty. The first customer service rep told me I was out of luck but I am not accepting that answer. Good luck, we'll both need it.
