You have a software conflict. You need to figure which programs are not compatible, it could do major damage.

My hp Pavillion DV6000 laptop starts up fine and after a few minutes the screen turns black. I can still see the desktop image in the background but barely. If I reboot the screen looks normal again but...

Well are 2 reasons for this behaviour of your notebook...first it can be an issue with the graphics card installed on the motheboard or its an issue with the Monitor cable which is connected between the motherboard and the LCD.

Following are the steps that you can try to resolve the problem:

At first we need to check whether its a hardware problem or not.

1.Restart the computer and tap on the F10 key for a while which would take us to the BIOS SET UP UTILITY...

2.Now we need to wait for sometime in this screen so that we can check the status of the screen whether the screen goes dim or it remains normal..

3.If the screen remains normal for around 10 minutes then its not a problem with the cable,

4.Now we need to get back to the windows screen and try installing the graphics driver for the notebook.

Let me provide you a couple of drivers for the notebook.

I am providing you the drivers assuming Windows Vista installed on the system

if you have an ATI card installed, the install the below mentioned driver:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=ob-60201-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

if you have an NVIDIA card install the below mentioned driver:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=vc-77961-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

or you can install the drivers directly from the manufacturers website..

Hope this works.

Regards
KEN

Hp pavillion laptop screen goes black

its the common problem with graphic card, if its nvedia chipset graphic, there is only one temp solution, ask any hardware machanics to put a glue and heat the display ic, then it would work for a week, in that period buy the amc from hp service centre, after a week if there is a prob, company will have to replacd the motherboard

Maybe you didn`t get all of the updates and you need to go back and do all of them.
Go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, WINDOWS UPDATE and complete all of them, restart when it tells you to and do it again and again until ther are no more updates.

Or you have the choice of removing the updates you complete prevously, if you choose to do this then this is how you do it in Windows 7
Go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, WINDOWS UPDATES, REVIEW YOUR UPDATE HISTORY, click on TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS WITH INSTALLING UPDATES and follow the instructions.
Let me know how everything turns out..

I am unable to open internet and programs

Could be a virus. Can you start up in safe mode? If so try that (F8 on reboot and choose safe mode). Once up in safe mode run a full virus scan.
