Which video files will Compaq DVD Burner burn to a DVD

A dvd burner will burn anything you tell it to burn, the things is you need certain programs to see what the extension was that you burnt.

EX- if you burn a DIVX file, windows media player won't see it, but it will see a WMP file.

The most important thing is the burning software, makes it easy to burn boot, ISO files, video.

But like I said, a DVD burner will burn anything you tell it to burn.

Dvd burner is not working

Is it the burner that is not working or it is the software?

Try one of these free burners to test the drive http://tinyurl.com/ledqnu

If it is the burner that is not working you probably need to replace the drive as there are usually no serviceable parts in a DVD drive.

Burn cds

Hi first thing go to

start
control panel
printers and other hardware
system (on left side)
hardware
device manager
DVD / CD rom drives

does it show up as a burner? DVD-RW or CD-RW
if not it may have a wrong driver installed If windows does not recognize it as a burner it will never work untill you get past the driver issue.

If the correct driver is installed
should be pretty simple there are many ways to burn
right click on a file and select SEND TO and send it to your burner usually drive D add all your files then select BURN FILES

or if they are media files you can use Windows Media Player

if all else fails track down a copy of Nero burning rom software or Roxio easy media creator.

Finally having said all that are you using the correct media?
if you try to burn files using a DVD on a non DVD burner it won't work.

also older burners were finicky and you had to watch your + and -'s

meaning if a DVD-R isn't working then try a DVD+R

if its an older burner you may consider upgrading it, a DVD burner can be bought on ebay or newegg for about $50 and its only a 2 cable install so its not to hard.

Another more extreme solution is to save all your files which you should be keeping in the "my documents" folder and do a system restore. (requires the factory restore disks)

This is very time intensive and can be VERY tricky but if the computer has been running for 3 plus years and is running slow it could probably use a fresh start and anything that has been corrupted over the years gets wiped away.

Hope that helps

Cannot backup files to a cd/dvd

we may need more details but you can try this for now

1. are you sure you have a cd writer or a dvd writer (writer = burner)--- check the front edge of your cd/dvd unit and look for words like "writer" "burner" or writeable next to the word dvd or compact disc... keep in mind not all cd/dvd writer can write (burn) cd or dvds, some may burn cd but not dvds.

2. is your cd/dvd unit compatible with the media (cd or dvd blank disk) you are trying to use.. depending your cd/dvd especifications your dvd/cd drive is compatible with certain types of cd or dvds that are writeable.

3. is the cd/dvd a writeable cd/dvd and is compatible with your cd/dvd drive? for instance.. if you are using a blank dvd and your cd/dvd drive only burn cd/s and read dvd and cd you won't be able to write to the blank dvd.

4. are you trying to burn a dvd in a corporate computer.?? as a user (not an administrator) of your corporate computer you may not have priviledges that will allow them to burn dvd/cd's even you your drive and your media are compatible.

please post
the error that you get
the brand and model of the computer you're using
the type of media you're using

Cannot copy files to DVD disks

First of all you should have the recording tab ON. Have you tried burning using Nero instead of dragging and dropping? This may solve the problem.

However, if you prefer to drag and drop, try setting the write speed to a slower setting, even if the dvd burner has faster write capabilities.

1. I do not think it is a hardware issue.

2. You can try replacing the IDE cable, but if you can read the contents of the disk it does not suggest a communication issue between the drive and mobo.

3. I do not think that the burning software is to blame, when you drag and drop you are actually using a windows based burning software that is installed with the operating system.

4. set up your files to burn through nero, let the software do the work.

I had the same issue with my dvd burner, although slightly different error messages, solved it by using nero instead.

well what you can try is
1.) Cleaning your registery out
2.) deleting all temp files
3.) defragmenting your registery

to do all the above you can use a product know as tune up utilities aviable here www.phazeddl,com type yune up in the search box and search it

4.) defragmenting your harddrive
to to this go into my computer
right click on local disc and click properties.
clicl tools the defrag

5 delete your preftech files
they are located in c:\windows\prefetch

6 empty your recycle bin

7 restart

ensure you have 16x media and your burningspeed is set to 16x

4x media means you can only burn at 4 8x at 8 or below, 16x at 16 or below

if all fails then you need to format and reinstall

Wont burn cds , files , etc

well it could be many reasons why it wont write your burner but first what software you are using for burning. it happens to me before using media player when i try to burn music. the reason was i haven't configure my media player to use my dvd burner for burning because i have dvd burner and a cd burner installed. Now maybe you try to reinstall it using your dvd driver the one which with your dvd burner when you first bought it.
