I have a Kenmore 80 Series Model 110-25862-400 washer. The water flow slows to a trickle when using cold water. When I use hot water the flow is markedly faster. I have checked the cold water connection to see if it is stopped up and it is not. Any idea as to what it could be?

Pull the two screws at the bottom corners of the control panel. Pivot the panel up. Lever the two metal keepers underneath forward and up to remove them. Tilt the housing forward and pull it toward you to remove it. Make sure you unhook the lid switch wiring plug before you remove the housing.

Water inlet valve should all be one piece for hot and cold.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series Model 110-25862 that won't start wash cycle

Check your lid switch. This is the most common cause of the problem you are experiencing. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, a wash tub that will not drain, and stopping right after the wash cycle and not advancing to rinse or spin cycles.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

A replacement lid switch (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

This is a very simple and inexpensive repair that you can do without the assistance of a repairman. The average price is about $20 - $30 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices differ between sites so shop and compare. The part number for a replacement for your washer is 3949238.

NOTE: You DO NOT need to drain the washer to replace the lid switch. Once a defective switch is replaced, the washer will drain.

Silt, sand, something from deep water well has migrated past exterior washer hose screens into washing machine. Older Kenmore HD Series 70 top loading washer. How to fix?

probable but unlikely
the control valve for the water ( hot or cold ) has a diaphragm in the main flow with a small hole in it to act like a pressure regulator
so when the solenoid shuts off the water , water flows through that small hole and locks the diaphragm firmly on the seat
I suggest that the low flow is because that diaphragm has been compromised and is not opening correctly for full water flow
take it apart and clean it out or replace it

Kenmore 90 Series Washer : cold water fills at just a trickle:

your hot water goes through the water heater so contaminates settle in the heater. the cold does not, there is a screen inside the fill valve where the hose hooks to the valve on the machine. if this in not plugged then the fill valve will have to be replaced. because of the build up of contaminates..

Hot water just trickles in both of my Kenmore top loader washers

Try reversing hot for cold hoses and see what happens. That will test your valves, hot water pressure, etc. As far as I know, the valve screens are right where the hoses hook up.

Kenmore 80 series model #110.26882503 fills slowly

For low water volume - or "Trickling" effect...

1. Turn off the water supply to both hoses.
2. Remove hoses (one at a time so you don't get them confused)
3. On the washer side - look for a removeable screen inside wher you just removed the hose.
4. Using a small screwdriver - pop out the screen and reverse-flush it/clean it. It will likely be full of sediment and calcium deposits from your pipes.
5. Replace the inlet screens.
6. Re-fit the hose to the machine.
7. Turn on water supply valves.
8. re-try.

Cold water trickle hot water runs good

turn off water valves at wall, disconnect the supply hoses from the washer. where the hoses connect to the washer, there is usually a stainless steel screen/strainer inline on both the hot and cold inlet. corrosion on the cold side is pretty common. Menards, Lowes Home Depot stores sell the replacment screeens.

Kenmore 80 series model #110.26882503 fills slowly

Yes, the only other thing I would do and you may have done this is to put the hose directly over in the washer tub and turn the water on to check the flow. If that's good then replace the water valve.

Kenmore washing machine 80 series

check for kinks in the pipe or restrictions to the flow in the pipes before it gets to the washer, if all is ok then check the filter on the outside of the water connector on the machine for dirt

if you confirm all is clear and the flow of water is not the problem before the machine, replace the cold water solenoid
