Question about Kenmore KMX16E Mixer

Kenmore 16 speed hand mixer - KMX16E - Using speeds

I bought 2 of these online a couple years ago. I gave one to my mom and her's never worked. It was EBay so I was unable to return them and seller stated they were never used.

I only used mine once. To make a torte and at the time - it worked beautifully!

I guesss I don't bake much 'cause I went to make a cake tonight and it says to use slow speed to mix for 30 secs & 2 mins on medium. I got the mixer out of the box (I lost the instructions when I was moving as I used to keep all instruction manuals together) and...

First the speeds kept going up and I was not pushing the + or - buttons. I kept playing with it but sped 1 is fast, not slow. In fact all the speeds are fast. I cannot tell too much of a difference.

I went to Kenmore.com and I could not locate a manual or info on it as it is an old model and they don't seem to have product info on older models, like most companies do.

Has anyone else ever had that problem? Maybe I am doing something wrong but it looks simple to me. How could I mess up the speeds? Unless there is something I really am missing.

Thanks!

I went ahead and used it anyhow. I should have used a spoon! I put it on the first speed and it managed to stay there but within a few seconds the batter was flying all over the place.

From what you describe, it sound like the mixer has seen better days. It may be possible to take it apart and service it, but I think you are better off replaceing it with a new one.

Kitchen aid khm3wh beaters will not stay in mixer

I fixed mine (my wife's). Kitchenaid 3-Speed Hand Mixer KHM3WH. Here's how I did it.
This is a pretty old mixer. My wife bought it at a thrift store for $1. She brought it home, we found the beaters and whisk beaters on eBay. Paid $34.00 for both sets of beaters, but when we received them we found they would not stay in the mixer. Oh we also bought the alternative/replacement beaters from Sears, parts online. I don't think those will work with my fix. However with some $0.92 rubber washers from Lowe's and a heavy duty paperclip I fixed the mixer, and it works flawlessly. Maybe some stainless steel wire would be a better, more permanent fix.

Mixer has lost all speeds, only works when moving the lever back and forth. The mixer is about 9 years old.

Download a Copy of the Kitchenaid Service manual.

Adjust the mixer speeds:
Remove the screw holding the End Cover and locate the three screws from the Control Plate.
All three (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom) must be adjusted.

1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.

For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:
Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 280

I have a Kitchen Aid k45ss that was dropped a few years ago. I works fine but the speed switch doesn't want to stay in the off position so we have to unplug it. I opened the unit and the switch...

When you said "the speed switch doesn't want to stay in the off position", you meant to
say "the speed switch in the OFF position does not turn OFF the mixer", or "the speed
switch physically cannot be moved to the OFF position"?

In any case, try to adjust the mixer speeds.
Obtain a copy of the K45SS Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com.
Remove the screw holding the End Cover and locate the three screws from the Control Plate.
All three (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom) must be adjusted.

When I turn on my Kitchenaid mixer at any speed, it ramps up to high speed and then shuts down after maybe 30 seconds.

You need a reputable repairman. My gears were stripped after trying to mix a very thick dough. It would only work on high speed. After it was repaired.... I still use it, all the speeds work, and that has been 15 years ago. My mixer was at least 8 years old at the time of the "stripping".

K45SS cycles on low speed, then has only one higher speed

It sounds like you may have an issue with either the governor assembly and or the main control. If the speed you are getting is constantly going up an down in RPM then this could indicate that the governor has simply become worn and its resistance is gone. If however you get no speed at all and then all of a sudden you get a high speed then it will most likely be the main control. Part number for the governor assembly is 17830. Part number for the main control is 240904−2. Both are relatively simple and cheap to replace. Hope this helps

Thanks

Panasonic Mixer/Blender not working - works only when tapped

It looks like there may be some loose wire connection. Or it may be due to carbon brush probelm. We at Inno Concepts or any of our dealers can diagnose and fix the problem for a reasonable cost. Please contact us at 770-594-1815 or send us an email with all the details to info@innoconcepts.com

For grinding hard vegetables, use thinner pieces not more than 1/2" in any dimension.

Mixer works at high speed only

You might have someone repair it for you; here is a place that charges a flat fee of $69.95 and thats including the return shipping. Check 'em out:http://www.marbeck.com/repair_mixer_kitchenaid.html The speed controller board sounds like the right direction but it hard to know if that is the issue until you install a new part. This is a known issue as far as I have heard around the internet. You might give KA a call and see if they can help; all they can say is no. I have heard they revised the part to fix the problem; my brother had a couple of boards replaced on his pro model and now it seems fine. Good luck!
