Samsung HCL5515WX/XAA convergence Issue

Quick Question. When I removed the AA95-00705A PCB Sub board with the convergence circuits on it, I found that the 100K Variable resistor is fried. As I am having issues with Red convergence, could this be the only issue or do you recommend replacing the STK392-040's as well? What about the 150 Ohm R's at RFZ19 and higher?

Thank you for the information. I was able to get some STK392-040's from electronix Corporation online for about $10 each. Surgery commences tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

Also, if anyone is interested, I am now the proud owner of the Service Manual for the Samsung HCL5515WX/XAA. If anyone needs a copy, contact me.

convergence off, red wavey, corners bowed colors move but won't converge, all colors sharp and clear. Two convergence power modules and one fried resistor replaced (modules on heat sinks on video board) problem persists. tech who replaced items at it not very helpful when problem remained. Prior to replacements blue would not move at all, now all colors move but again no convergence.

I would replace both of the STK392-040, and check the resistors with one side out of circuit. The variable resistors are melted at the factory after the resistance is dialed in. I would check the resistance on it before replacing it. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions.

best wishes on your repairs. Just a small word of caution , be wary of any convergence IC that sells that cheap as youre not getting real sanyos so they wont last as long as they should.

I purchased the convergence chips for Samsung PCL5415RX/XAA TV. Do I need to remove the entire sub deflection board to R&R them?

Yes, however I would be surprised if changing the two Ics will repair the set, as that chassis should always have the sub-deflection board replaced since most of the resistors will be stressed. Thats why samsung changed the later chassis's by removing the convergence circuits from the deflection board as its almost 98% certain that the deflection board will need replacement when the ICs fail with those chassis designs unless every component in the convergence circuit is replaced which will cost more than the deflection boards do. But you may get lucky but if the ICs dont cure the problem you will need a new deflection board

Another Question Please.

Horizontal lines can be cause by many things. One of which is the convergence module. $130.00 is a little high for something that can be caused by other things as well.

TAKE SOME ADVICE:

Lots of people try to buy a "board" for this kind of repair and it is a mistake.

If you have a convergence problem just get someone to replace the two STK-392-040 convergence chips this set uses.

Yes, there are two fuses near them that need to be checked--you can get all (both chips and the fuses) on EBAY for less than 20 dollars.

A replacement board will be more and I have seen several people who suddenly had new problems who did this.

Replacing the board sounds better but usually is not.

This set is not the most easy to work on but replacing the BAD parts is as easy as changing a board.

If you need to know--there is a seller I use on EBAY WITH THESE CHIPS.

These sets are not like the Plasma sets where they only sell circuit boards--with this kind of set you are almost always better to fix the board you have.

If you need any help do not hesitate to ask--I am here to help.

If this information helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

I have a HCL473W with a 'concave' screen effect on 2 colors??

You don't need to replace the whole board, regardless of which board it may be mounted on. The STK IC convergence chips alone are all that need to be replaced. You can order them from a number of different online sites. You can try Alibaba.com. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

OK, Its always best to replace the lens assembly if its not preforming well. never dump the fluid. just replace the lens. As for the double images and the misalignment of the blue convergence line, this is caused by a faulty convergence chip that is located on the convergence board. you will need to replace this board in order to restore proper convergence performance.

Convergence circuit correction

BEWARE some people suggest that the IC's can be replaced and that they are part of the convergence circuit, they are on the POWER board for the convergence circuit, the convergence is a separate 'card' that is almost the same price as the 'sub board' with the IC's. Although most people favor the sub board as the culprit.

Dead Samsung

I don't recommend working on the TV unless you have some experience and knowledge relating to the safety issues and electronic repair. Most rookies will not successfully complete the repair and probably do more harm than good.

Sometimes when the convergence chips fail, the TV senses the changed load condition and shuts down.

Unplugging the blue, red or green convergence connector on the convergence board removes the overload condition if the IC is shorted and allows the tv to run, with one color missing.

This is done with the tv unplugged. Then plugged in and turned on to see if it starts. Turn off immediately if you here it start.

Now you know if convergence failure caused the shutdown. You can repair the convergence circuit if that is the problem.

If this has no affect, then you could have a number of different faults in Vertical output, Power Supply or HV circuits that require the expertise of a qualified service person. This would be a bench repair in most shops.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:

http://calgaryconvergencerepair.weebly.com/convergence-explanation.html

Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck

RGB COLOR PROBLEM.

You will need to check the plus and the minus convergence voltages in the main power supply. There are a couple of circuit protector fuses that go bad. Do not replace these untill you replace the convergence IC's or you will cause more problems in the main power supply. Good Luck
